Simple Servers – 611 Customer Reviews: Analysis (Sep 2026)

Short answer: you can’t buy it any more. Simple Servers, the UK Magento hosting specialist, merged into Hosting UK on 31 March 2025, and simpleservers.co.uk now redirects there. If you landed here from a review promising GBP 14 Magento plans, that product is gone.

This review covers what Simple Servers actually was, what its 605 customer reviews say, and what happened to the brand. Some affiliate pages still quote live prices for a host that stopped selling in March 2025. We checked the domain, the Companies House record, and the successor’s own migration notice. We also show the rating distribution behind the average score, not just the average.

Overall assessment: Simple Servers scores 4.0/5 across 605 reviews, and 85.8% of those reviews are 5-star. Support quality was the consistent strength. Billing disputes and chargeable support tickets were the consistent complaint. Best suited for nobody today, because the brand no longer sells hosting.

Features and Services

Simple Servers sold hosting built around one application: Magento (an open-source ecommerce platform, now sold by Adobe as Adobe Commerce). That focus was the whole pitch. The company called itself the UK’s specialist Magento host and tuned its stack for Magento stores rather than general websites.

Hosting Types Offered

  • Magento SSD Shared Hosting – four tiers on shared servers, with SSD storage (solid state drives, much faster than spinning disks)
  • SSD Semi Dedicated Magento Hosting – a middle tier between shared and dedicated
  • Magento and SSD Dedicated Servers – Dell PowerEdge machines, five standard builds plus custom quotes
  • M-Cloud and W-Cloud – cloud hosting aimed at Magento and WordPress
  • WordPress shared, dedicated and reseller hosting
  • M2E Pro hosting, SSL certificates, and colocation

Key Features Customers Highlight

Reviews rarely mention the feature list. They mention people. Named support engineers show up again and again in 5-star reviews, which tells you where the value sat.

  • Out-of-hours support – multiple reviews describe weekend and Christmas Eve fixes, which matters when a store is down
  • Magento-specific tuning – customers report good page load speeds on shared plans, unusual for a heavy platform
  • Simple Sentinel WAF – an in-house Web Application Firewall (a filter that blocks malicious web traffic) bundled with plans
  • Barracuda firewalls and DDoS filtering across the network

Data Center Locations

Here the marketing contradicted itself, on a single page. The last live homepage said “8 UK DC’s. We own 8 UK DC’s” and added “When we say ‘our data centres’ – we mean it.” Further down that same homepage, the About paragraph said the company runs “two strategically placed data centers.”

Its dedicated data centre page made things worse. Its heading claimed “8 UK data centre locations owned and managed by us,” then listed ten: London, Manchester, Maidenhead, Birmingham, Glasgow, Gosport, Leicester, Nottingham, St. Asaph and Warwickshire. Those are iomart Group facilities. Simple Servers didn’t own them; its parent did.

Performance Expectations

No independent benchmark data was found for Simple Servers. The company advertised a 100% uptime SLA (Service Level Agreement, a written uptime promise with a defined payout) and 4-hour hardware replacement. One customer ran their own test in October 2017. Using Pingdom, they measured a shared plan about 10% slower than their DigitalOcean cloud server.

Customer Experience

On Trustpilot, Simple Servers holds 4.0/5 from 605 reviews. The distribution is worth seeing, because the average hides it. There are 519 five-star reviews (85.8%), 32 four-star, 10 three-star, 10 two-star and 34 one-star. A straight average of those stars comes to 4.64, well above the 4.0 the platform displays, because time-weighting discounts the older positives.

And the corpus is old. The newest review is dated 12 February 2025. The 200 most recent reviews stretch all the way back to 11 September 2017. The other 405 reviews, 67% of the total, are older still. Of those 200, ninety landed in 2018 alone, while 2024 produced five and 2025 produced two.

What Customers Praise

Support responsiveness dominates the positive reviews. Customers describe problems fixed in minutes, not hours. One February 2023 reviewer wrote that support “really pulled us out of a tricky situation” outside business hours.

Longevity comes second. Several 5-star reviews are from customers of five years or more, which for a hosting company is a real signal. The last review ever posted, from February 2025: “We have used Simple Servers for many years, they are always extremely helpful when issues occur.”

Named engineers appear repeatedly. Reviewers thank specific people by first name, which suggests a small team customers actually got to know rather than a rotating ticket queue.

Common Complaints

Billing generates the most serious complaints, and they’re specific. A February 2020 reviewer reported being double-billed EUR 500 with tickets ignored for weeks. A July 2018 reviewer said GBP 202.80 taken in error was still unrefunded eight months later. A January 2023 reviewer reported GBP 288 taken after cancellation and raised a card dispute.

Chargeable support is the second theme. A November 2017 customer asked which folder to restore and was told it would be a GBP 65 chargeable event. Another paid GBP 65 a month for “Full Server Management” and was then asked to pay more for management.

Slow first-line support runs through the 1-star reviews across every year. A June 2024 reviewer put it plainly: “1st line support have been terrible on numerous occasions… changes they’ve made have taken the server or websites offline. When you get past them the support is much better.”

Community Feedback (Reddit & Forums)

Community discussion is thin, and that itself is informative. Simple Servers has almost no organic Reddit footprint. The mentions that exist are old and second-hand.

In a July 2022 r/Magento thread asking “Who are the best current Magento hosts?”, not one commenter recommended Simple Servers. The only mention came sideways: “Plus one for kubeservers.co.uk, its from the guy who built Simple Servers.” The person who built the business had moved on, and the community was pointing at his new venture instead.

The sharpest community warning is the one customers wrote themselves on Trustpilot after the takeover. A November 2023 reviewer: “Used to be great, but since iomart bought them, the service has been getting worse. The techs aren’t as knowledgeable.” A July 2021 reviewer said the company was “no longer market leaders or innovative in their offering.” The reason they gave: it was now “part of a much larger organisation called IOMART.” A January 2024 reviewer opened with “Used to be a good company but getting worse since taken over.”

Support Quality

The gap between marketing and contract is wide here. Marketing promised “24 Hour Support.” The SLA defined the business day as 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, with an initial response promised within four hours of a logged interruption.

Phone support came and went. An August 2018 reviewer noted “they have removed the help line number and it is obvious why.” A September 2017 reviewer had switched to Simple Servers specifically for phone support, then found there wasn’t any. A number was back on the site by 2025.

When to Use Simple Servers

You can’t buy it, so this section answers a different question: who is this page useful to?

Useful For

Existing customers wondering what happened: Your contract moved to Easyspace Limited trading as Hosting UK on 31 March 2025. Your old login works at billing.hostinguk.net, old tickets carried over, and invoices now come from Easyspace.

Anyone who found an old Simple Servers review: Several review sites still list the brand as buyable with live prices. One “Simple Servers Review 2026” was first published in September 2018 and never mentions the acquisition or the merge. Check the domain before you trust the price.

Buyers researching UK Magento hosting: The reasons Simple Servers won customers still apply to the category. Magento rewards a host that tunes for it, and the reviews here show what that support looks like when it works.

You’ll Recognise the Pattern If

  • You bought a specialist host and watched it get absorbed – because acquisition changed the support quality customers rated so highly
  • You need to date a review before trusting it – because this brand shows how long stale pages survive
  • You’re comparing UK providers – because the reasons this host was worth paying for still narrow the field

When NOT to Use Simple Servers

The honest version is short: never, because there’s nothing to buy. But the reasons matter if you’re weighing the successor or a similar host.

Look Elsewhere If

You want Magento hosting: Hosting UK, the brand that absorbed Simple Servers, doesn’t sell a Magento product at all. The specialism didn’t survive the merge. Sonassi and Kube Servers are the UK names the Magento community actually raises.

You want a written refund promise you can read: The terms referenced a “30 day moneyback guarantee.” Refunds were “subject to the exclusions listed within” it. That document was never published. No page on simpleservers.co.uk ever carried a money-back guarantee, across the entire web archive of the site.

You want backups included on a dedicated server: SLA clause 5.5 put data security and backups squarely on the customer. The company accepted “no responsibility for damage to data or loss of service however caused.”

Red Flags Worth Knowing

  • The uptime guarantee had teeth only on paper: claims had to be filed in writing within five working days. They counted only while you were “within credit terms,” so a billing dispute could void an outage claim
  • Maintenance didn’t count: both routine and emergency maintenance were excluded from the SLA
  • Credits capped at one month’s fees: the service credit was the “sole and exclusive remedy” for any outage
  • Stale legal documents: the dedicated server terms were a PDF at version 6.0, last updated 12 July 2019, still current in 2023

Simple Servers Plans and Pricing

⚠️ Pricing Warning: Simple Servers had no renewal shock. Prices were flat monthly rates with no promotional first term, so a GBP 14.00 plan stayed GBP 14.00. The catch sat elsewhere. Prices were quoted before VAT (Value Added Tax, 20% in the UK). Support work outside the plan was chargeable. And the contract auto-renewed unless you sent a written cancellation notice first.

These are the last prices the company published, captured from its own shopping cart on 15 August 2024. Setup fees were free on every tier.

Magento SSD Shared Hosting

M Core: GBP 14.00/mo – 900MB disk, 3GB bandwidth, 1 domain

M Power: GBP 18.00/mo – 2GB disk, 6GB bandwidth, 1 domain

M Pro: GBP 26.00/mo – 10GB disk, 30GB bandwidth, 2 domains

M Extreme: GBP 31.00/mo – 40GB disk, 50GB bandwidth, 6 domains

Read that entry tier again. GBP 14.00 a month bought 900 megabytes. That’s a premium price for a storage allowance most budget hosts stopped advertising a decade ago. You paid for the Magento tuning and the support, not the resources.

One limit caught buyers out. A customer noted in May 2018 that SSH (Secure Shell, command-line access to your account) was restricted to the M Pro and M Extreme tiers. Magento 2 development is painful without it, so the two cheapest plans were harder to work with than the price suggested.

SSD Dedicated Servers

SSD 1: GBP 252.33/mo – Intel Xeon E3-1270 v2, 16GB RAM, 2 x 128GB SSD in RAID 1 (data mirrored across both drives)

SSD 2: GBP 342.33/mo – Xeon E3-1270 v5, 64GB RAM, 2 x 240GB SSD

SSD 3: GBP 584.33/mo – Xeon E5-2640 v4, 64GB RAM, 2 x 480GB SSD

SSD 4: GBP 804.33/mo – 2 x Xeon E5-2640 v4, 128GB RAM, 4 x 960GB SSD in RAID 10

SSD 5: GBP 1,073.33/mo – Xeon E5-2687 v3, 64GB RAM, 5 x 256GB SSD in RAID 10

Annual payment cut between GBP 175 and GBP 730 off the yearly bill, depending on tier. The hardware was dated by 2024. The entry SSD 1 ran a Xeon E3-1270 v2, a chip Intel launched in 2012, at GBP 252.33 a month.

Hidden Costs to Watch

  • VAT: 20% on top of every advertised price. A June 2018 reviewer called the omission misleading
  • Support work: the SLA said operating system repair “may be chargeable”. Customers reported a GBP 65 charge for a restore and GBP 85 per hour for fixes
  • Chargeback administration fee: GBP 50 per instance, per clause 8.9.3 of the terms
  • Off-list payment methods: GBP 25 administration fee per item
  • Staff-assisted domain transfer out: GBP 15 plus VAT

Pricing Verdict

Expensive, honestly priced at the headline, and quietly expensive underneath. The flat rates were refreshing in a market built on 3x renewal jumps. But 900MB for GBP 14.00 was poor value on resources. The chargeable-support model meant your real monthly cost depended on how often you needed help.

Simple Servers Transparency Score

We assess how upfront Simple Servers was with important information:

  • Company Information: Good – the footer named iomart Hosting Limited and its Scottish company number SC275629. Ownership was disclosed, though the marketing never volunteered it
  • Pricing Transparency: Good – flat monthly rates with no renewal trap, and free setup. Marked down because VAT was excluded from displayed prices and support charges weren’t listed anywhere
  • Technical Documentation: Limited – the data centre count contradicted itself three ways on the company’s own site: two, eight, and ten named locations
  • Terms & Policies: Poor – the charging policy opened with “There are no hidden extras.” That same company never published its money-back exclusions and charged GBP 65 for a restore

Overall Transparency: Mixed, and worse in the places that cost money. Pricing was straightforward. The refund terms, support charges and infrastructure claims were not.

Alternatives to Simple Servers

If you came looking for Simple Servers, these are the realistic routes now:

For the Actual Successor: Hosting UK

Every Simple Servers contract now sits with Easyspace Limited trading as Hosting UK. It sells cPanel hosting from GBP 2.95 a month, VPS and cloud from GBP 13.85, and dedicated servers from GBP 69.00. Far cheaper than Simple Servers was, with no Magento specialism. See our UK dedicated server guide to judge whether GBP 69 buys competitive hardware.

For Magento Expertise: Sonassi

Sonassi is the Manchester Magento host r/Magento commenters recommend by name, often citing replies within minutes. iomart bought Sonassi in 2017 too, in a GBP 16.5m deal, so check current ownership and pricing before committing. For platform comparisons, see our ecommerce VPS hosting guide.

For Budget UK Hosting: Shared Providers

If your store is small and GBP 14 for 900MB sounded steep, it was. Mainstream shared hosts give you far more room at a fraction of that. Our shared hosting comparison covers the options, and our UK cloud hosting guide covers the tier above.

Simple Servers Review at HowToHosting.Guide

Copy this result

Simple Servers scores 2.5/5 from us, and that number rates the buying decision in September 2026, not the service it once ran. As a live product it earned its 4.0/5 across 605 reviews on support quality. As a purchase today it doesn’t exist.

The Bottom Line

This was a good small host that was bought, absorbed, and finally switched off. Customers saw it coming and said so: the complaints naming iomart start in 2021 and run to the last months of the brand. The specialism that made it worth GBP 252 a month didn’t survive the merge.

With 4.0/5 across 605 reviews, Simple Servers delivered strong support. Then its review record stopped dead on 12 February 2025. The brand ended as a line item in a larger group. If you hold a legacy contract, you’re a Hosting UK customer now. If you’re shopping, start with our UK web hosting comparison instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Simple Servers still in business?

No, not as a hosting brand. Simple Servers merged into Hosting UK on 31 March 2025, and simpleservers.co.uk now redirects to hostinguk.net. The shell company SIMPLESERVERS LIMITED is still registered, but its Companies House entry carries SIC code 74990, “Non-trading company.”

What happened to my Simple Servers account?

Your contract was assigned to Easyspace Limited trading as Hosting UK, effective 31 March 2025. Log in at billing.hostinguk.net with your old Simple Servers credentials. Old support tickets and saved payment methods were carried across, and invoices now come from Easyspace.

Was Simple Servers good for Magento?

Its customers thought so. Reviews consistently praised Magento-specific tuning and fast support, and the shared plans loaded well for a heavy platform. The weak point was resources. The GBP 14.00 entry plan gave you 900MB of disk space, and SSH access started only at the GBP 26.00 tier.

What did customers complain about most?

Billing, by a wide margin. Reviews report double charges, refunds delayed for months, and payments taken after cancellation. The second theme is chargeable support: routine work such as restoring a backup could trigger a GBP 65 fee. The third is slow first-line support.

Did Simple Servers offer refunds?

The terms promised a 30-day money-back guarantee, “subject to the exclusions listed within” it. Those exclusions were never published anywhere on the site. Beyond 30 days, refunds of unused time were “at our sole discretion,” and cancelling required written notice before the renewal date.

Who owns Simple Servers now?

iomart Group plc, and it has since 2017. The trading company, iomart Hosting Limited, was renamed IOMART MANAGED SERVICES LIMITED on 31 January 2024. Its customers then moved to Easyspace Limited, another iomart subsidiary, in March 2025.
