Kamatera vs Hostinger (2026): Prices, Latency and Windows
Built to the size of Hostinger's KVM 1 VPS, a Kamatera cloud server costs USD 16 a month. Hostinger charges USD 6.49, then USD 11.99 at renewal. Kamatera earns its place elsewhere: hourly billing, Windows, and 21 cities to Hostinger's 10.
Quick answer: Pick Hostinger for a Linux VPS you'll keep at least a year. Four years at the KVM 1 size cost USD 443.52 there and USD 768 at Kamatera. Pick Kamatera for Windows, hourly test servers, or visitors in Australia, Japan or California.

We priced Kamatera's calculator at Hostinger's four plan sizes and timed both networks from 10 home connections. Our method is explained below.

Pricing at Matched Sizes: Hostinger Wins Even After Renewal
The two sell a VPS (virtual private server) in different ways. Hostinger offers four fixed KVM plans, paid upfront for 1, 12 or 24 months. Kamatera lets you pick vCPUs, RAM and disk one by one, then bills by the month or by the hour.
So we rebuilt each Hostinger plan in Kamatera's calculator. We used Type A, Kamatera's cheapest CPU type, which its FAQ describes as a non-dedicated CPU thread with no resources guaranteed. Kamatera's dedicated-thread Type B costs more: USD 33 a month at the KVM 1 size.
| Size | Kamatera Type A, per month | Hostinger, first 24 months | Hostinger, next 24 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB (KVM 1) | USD 16 | USD 6.49 | USD 11.99 |
| 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB (KVM 2) | USD 36 | USD 8.99 | USD 14.99 |
| 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB (KVM 4) | USD 74 | USD 12.99 | USD 28.99 |
| 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 400 GB (KVM 8) | USD 170 | USD 25.99 | USD 49.99 |
Hostinger's renewal lifts the bill 1.67x to 2.23x, depending on the plan. On KVM 1 it's 1.85x. It still doesn't catch Kamatera. At renewal, KVM 2 costs USD 14.99, while Kamatera charges USD 36 for the same 2 vCPU and 8 GB, 2.4 times as much.
Over four years the gap widens with size. We took the cheapest way to pay at each provider: Hostinger's 24-month prepay plus its 24-month renewal, and Kamatera's monthly rate.
| Size | Kamatera, 2 years | Hostinger, 2 years | Kamatera, 4 years | Hostinger, 4 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KVM 1 size | USD 384 | USD 155.76 | USD 768 | USD 443.52 |
| KVM 2 size | USD 864 | USD 215.76 | USD 1,728 | USD 575.52 |
| KVM 4 size | USD 1,776 | USD 311.76 | USD 3,552 | USD 1,007.52 |
| KVM 8 size | USD 4,080 | USD 623.76 | USD 8,160 | USD 1,823.52 |
At the smallest size, Kamatera costs 1.73 times Hostinger's four-year total. At the KVM 8 size it costs 4.47 times as much.
Hostinger raised KVM 1 from USD 4.99 to USD 6.49 a month between 18 February and 7 March 2026. Hostinger gave no date, so that range comes from Common Crawl copies of its VPS page. The renewal rose from USD 9.99 to USD 11.99 in the same step, so four years now cost USD 443.52 instead of USD 359.52.
Hostinger's Black Friday sale, on from 19 October until 14 December 2026, cuts KVM 2 to USD 8.79 a month on 24 months. KVM 1 stays at USD 6.49, the price it showed on 9 September. Kamatera ran no Black Friday offer in 2024 or 2025: its archived homepages from both Novembers show only the free trial.
Where does Kamatera win on price? Short jobs. Its KVM 1-sized server costs USD 0.022 an hour, so a 48-hour test comes to about USD 1.06. Over nine months it costs USD 144, still under Hostinger's USD 155.76 two-year prepay.
Hostinger's month-to-month option renews at USD 19.49 after the first month, USD 3.49 above Kamatera's monthly rate. During the sale, its 12-month term costs USD 83.88 for KVM 1, which beats Kamatera from the sixth month.
Winner: Hostinger, at every size and on any commitment of a year or more. Kamatera wins only when the server lives for months, not years.
Data Centers and Latency: Kamatera Reaches Further
Kamatera's calculator offers 21 cities. Nine are in North America, seven in Europe, and the rest are Tel Aviv, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney. Kamatera announced Bucharest on 8 August 2026 as its "25th location worldwide", yet only 21 can be picked.
Hostinger's VPS cart offers 10 cities, and two of its labels name only the country. Its cart data lists "United Kingdom" as Manchester and "Germany" as Düsseldorf. Frankfurt, Singapore and São Paulo appear there as inactive, and the Brazilian site is Campinas.
Each has gaps the other fills. Kamatera has nothing in India, South America or Africa. Hostinger has nothing in Australia, Japan, Canada or on the US West Coast.
Does that show up in practice? We measured it on 21 October 2026 using Globalping, whose free test probes are run by volunteers. Ten probes sat on home internet connections in nine countries. Each opened 10 TCP connections to port 443 on 21 test hosts: all 10 Hostinger VPS cities and the 11 Kamatera cities nearest the probes.
We used TCP because Kamatera's test hosts ignore most pings. For Hostinger, we used the hosts its own cart contacts to show "best latency". The table lists each probe's fastest city at each provider, in milliseconds (lower is better).
| Probe | Kamatera, fastest site | Kamatera, ms | Hostinger, fastest site | Hostinger, ms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Philadelphia, US | New York | 9.0 | Boston | 12.3 |
| San Francisco, US | Santa Clara | 19.4 | Phoenix | 41.7 |
| London, UK | London | 5.1 | Manchester | 9.7 |
| Hamburg, Germany | Frankfurt | 22.5 | Düsseldorf | 8.3 |
| Paris, France | London | 11.4 | Paris | 6.0 |
| Amsterdam, Netherlands | Frankfurt | 9.9 | Düsseldorf | 12.2 |
| Bengaluru, India | Singapore | 45.7 | Mumbai | 22.0 |
| Singapore | Singapore | 6.9 | Kuala Lumpur | 11.2 |
| Brisbane, Australia | Sydney | 23.0 | Phoenix | 171.2 |
| Cotia, Brazil | Atlanta | 134.9 | Campinas | 17.7 |
Watch Brisbane and Cotia, where one provider has no site nearby. Source: our Globalping measurement from home internet connections, 21 October 2026.[/caption]
Kamatera answered faster from six of the 10 probes. The biggest gaps run both ways. From Brisbane, Hostinger's fastest site was Phoenix, at 171.2 ms. From Cotia, near São Paulo, Kamatera's best was Atlanta at 134.9 ms. Kamatera publishes no test host in Miami, so that site went unmeasured.
A few connections needed a retry, which adds a fixed one or two seconds. That happened in 5 of 210 pairs. We counted those attempts as lost, like dropped pings, and averaged the rest.
Keep the limits in mind. This shows how quickly each network answers from one home connection per city, on one day. It isn't a page-speed test, and we didn't host a site on either provider.
Traffic differs by city too. Kamatera includes 5 TB a month, but its FAQ cuts that to 1 TB a month in Hong Kong, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore. Its plan cards still show 5 TB for all 21 cities. Hostinger's KVM 1 card lists 4 TB.
Winner: Kamatera for North America, the UK, Singapore and Australia. Hostinger for India, Brazil, France and Germany.
Control Panels, Windows and the Work You Take On
Both sell self-managed KVM servers, meaning you get root access and do the upkeep yourself. Kamatera's FAQ confirms KVM, and Hostinger names every plan after it. Updates, firewall rules and fixing a broken web server are your job on either.
The panel bill is where small servers get expensive. A cPanel licence for five accounts costs USD 32.99 a month at Hostinger, 5.1 times the KVM 1 server it runs on. Kamatera charges USD 35 for the same tier, so its KVM 1-sized server with cPanel comes to USD 51. Hostinger's KVM 1 with cPanel is USD 39.48.
You can skip that cost. Hostinger's cart offers 19 panels, including CloudPanel, which it lists as free, and DirectAdmin at USD 4.99 a month. Kamatera's Marketplace lists CloudPanel, CyberPanel and Webmin among its images, and Plesk Web Admin costs USD 22 a month in its calculator.
Backups split the same way. Hostinger includes weekly backups and sells daily ones for USD 3 a month. Kamatera sells backups as an add-on, and daily backups lift its KVM 1-sized server from USD 16 to USD 21.
Windows decides it for some buyers. Kamatera adds USD 19 a month for Windows Server, which requires a server of 2 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM or more. A 2 vCPU, 8 GB, 100 GB server with Windows Server 2022 costs USD 55 there. Hostinger's VPS cart lists 12 Linux images and no Windows at all.
Kamatera's console draws complaints. One r/VPS member who compared four hosts in June 2025 called its panel dated. They also disliked re-entering SSH keys for every new server. VPSBenchmarks, which runs its own VPS tests, likewise marks Kamatera "No" for SSH key setup.
Winner: Hostinger for Linux, because the panel and backups cost less. Kamatera for Windows and for sizes Hostinger doesn't sell.
Refunds, Trials, Uptime and Support
Hostinger refunds a VPS within 30 days, with a catch. It only applies if your previous VPS refund was more than 180 days ago. VPS licences and plan upgrades are never refunded.
Kamatera offers no money back. Instead, new accounts get a 30-day trial: one server worth up to USD 100 in resources and a 1 TB traffic allowance. A valid card is required. When the trial ends, its terms make the server chargeable unless you delete it.
One r/VPS member learned that in February 2026, finding about USD 100 billed after forgetting to cancel. Monthly servers carry a second trap. Kamatera's billing cycle starts on the 1st, so cancelling on the 2nd still costs the full month.
Uptime promises are thinner than they look on both sides. Kamatera's sales pages say 99.95%, but its SLA (service level agreement, the document that sets the uptime commitment) says 99.9%. It defines that as eight hours of downtime a year. It credits up to one month of the failed service, capped at USD 5,000. It can also reject any claim "for any reason".
Hostinger's hosting agreement promises 99.9% a month. After a missed month, you may request a credit of 5% of that month's fee, "as solely determined by us". On KVM 1 that's about USD 0.32, usable only on further purchases. Our Kamatera review reads its SLA clause by clause, including the exclusions.
Support is where Kamatera pulls ahead. It lists 24/7 chat, phone and email, with technical support lines in the US and UK. Hostinger starts every chat with Hostinger Agent, its AI assistant, and a human specialist can join if needed. It offers WhatsApp too, but no phone line.
How that AI-first model plays out is the subject of our Hostinger review, which counts AI-support complaints among recent low-star Trustpilot reviews. Kamatera's terms add a different risk: it can reprice "at any time", and the new rate applies at once, prepaid terms included.
Old Hostinger VPS plans: the 14 December deadline
Hostinger will shut down its remaining OpenVZ VPS servers on 14 December 2026 and permanently delete their data. Any Hostinger VPS bought before 18 April 2023 runs OpenVZ. There's no automatic conversion, so owners must set up a new KVM server and copy everything across.
Winner: Hostinger for the refund window, Kamatera for phone support. Neither SLA pays enough to matter.
If You Only Need Shared Hosting
Kamatera sells no shared hosting at all. Every Kamatera product is a cloud server. Even one blog means installing a panel and keeping the system patched, or paying USD 50 a month for its managed service.
Hostinger's Premium shared plan is the simpler buy for small sites. Four years cost USD 143.52 upfront, or USD 2.99 a month, and it renews at USD 10.99 a month. Premium is capped at 3 websites and 20 GB of SSD space, with backups once a week.
Here's the threshold. Three sites or fewer, under 20 GB in total, and no need for root access: buy Premium. A USD 4 Kamatera server costs less than Premium's renewal, but it has 1 GB of RAM and you patch it yourself. Add cPanel and the KVM 1-sized server reaches USD 51 a month.
Winner: Hostinger, by default. Kamatera has no shared plan to compare.
How We Compared Kamatera and Hostinger
We read every price on Kamatera's and Hostinger's own sites on 21 October 2026. We built Kamatera servers in its live price calculator, using Ubuntu Server 24.04 in New York. Kamatera shows prices with no tax line. Hostinger's cart added tax for our location, so its prices here are before tax.
Hostinger's sale was live during our check. Under our rules, tables and totals use the price before the sale, taken from an archived copy of Hostinger's VPS page dated 9 September 2026. Only KVM 2 differed. Prices shown only in the cart during the sale, like the 12-month term, are labelled as sale prices.
We matched sizes to Hostinger's four plans, because Kamatera can build any of them and Hostinger can't build Kamatera's. Multi-year totals use the cheapest way to pay for the whole period, renewals included. Kamatera has no prepay discount, so its totals are simply its monthly rate times the months.
Policy details come from Kamatera's terms, SLA and FAQ, and from Hostinger's refund policy, hosting agreement and help center. Buyer reports come from Reddit threads we read in full. Our scores (4.2 for Kamatera from 320 reviews, 4.6 for Hostinger from 63.2k+) come from our own review data.
The latency figures are our only first-hand measurement. We didn't host sites, run load tests or open support tickets.
How to Choose Between Kamatera and Hostinger
Budget: under USD 12 a month for 4 GB of RAM, kept a year or longer. Buy Hostinger KVM 1. It renews at USD 11.99, while Kamatera's same build costs USD 16 from day one.
Workload: a Windows app or a remote desktop server. Buy Kamatera, where Windows Server adds USD 19 a month. Hostinger's VPS runs Linux only.
Audience: mostly Australia or Japan. Buy Kamatera in Sydney or Tokyo. From Brisbane, Kamatera's Sydney site answered in 23.0 ms, against 171.2 ms for Hostinger's fastest.
Audience: mostly India or Brazil. Buy Hostinger in Mumbai or Campinas. Kamatera has no site in either country, and from Bengaluru its best was 45.7 ms against Hostinger's 22.0 ms.
Project length: under 10 months, or tests by the hour. Buy Kamatera. Nine months at the KVM 1 size cost USD 144, below the USD 155.76 Hostinger wants upfront for two years.
Client sites: up to five cPanel accounts on one small server. Buy Hostinger KVM 1 with its cPanel licence, USD 39.48 a month. Kamatera's equivalent costs USD 51.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run Windows Server on Hostinger or Kamatera?
Only on Kamatera. Its calculator charges USD 19 a month extra for Windows Server. Those images need at least two vCPUs and 2 GB of memory. Hostinger's VPS cart offers 12 Linux images and no Windows option.
Should I move an old Hostinger OpenVZ VPS to Kamatera?
You'll rebuild either way, because Hostinger deletes OpenVZ servers and their data on 14 December 2026. Staying with Hostinger KVM keeps one bill and costs less at the same size. Move to Kamatera only if you need Windows, a city Hostinger lacks, or hourly billing.
Is Kamatera legit, and who owns it?
Yes. Kamatera belongs to The OMC Group, which says it has provided cloud solutions since 1995. Yohay Azulay, OMC's co-founder and Kamatera's chairman, launched the Kamatera brand in 1996. US customers contract with Kamatera Inc., a US company.
Is Hostinger a Russian company?
No. Hostinger started in 2004 in Kaunas, Lithuania, and its headquarters are in Vilnius. Its About page says the company is privately held and was never listed. A private equity investor owns roughly 30%, with founders and staff holding the remainder.
Final Verdict
Hostinger is the better buy for most people reading this. For a Linux VPS kept a year or more, it costs less at every size, even after renewal. It also offers a 30-day VPS refund and includes weekly backups.
Kamatera is the one to pick when the job doesn't fit Hostinger's shape. Choose it for Windows servers, hourly or short-lived projects, or visitors in Australia, Japan and the US West Coast. Budget for its higher monthly rate and the full-month billing rule.
Running an old Hostinger OpenVZ plan? Rebuild on KVM before 14 December 2026, wherever you go. And if you only host a few small sites, skip both VPS products and buy Hostinger Premium.
