ScalaHosting has sold hosting since 2007. The company, Scala Hosting LLC, is based at 1999 Bryan Street in Dallas, Texas. It started with reseller hosting and dedicated servers and launched SSD cloud hosting in 2014. Its main product today is the managed cloud VPS. Every plan comes with SPanel, a control panel ScalaHosting built itself and first released in 2017.

The 200 newest Trustpilot reviews show what customers notice. 144 of them mention support, help, the team or chat, and 93 use a word like fast, quick or minutes. These are keyword counts, not a hand-sorted analysis, but the pattern is hard to miss.

• SPanel – ScalaHosting’s own control panel, the dashboard for sites, email, databases and DNS. It’s free on every plan. cPanel, the panel most hosts use, costs extra here because its licence is priced per account.
• Free migrations – staff move your existing sites from another host at no charge. 21 of the 200 reviews mention a migration. The terms add one exception: moving between two ScalaHosting servers is free only when you upgrade.
• NVMe storage – every plan uses NVMe drives, which read and write data faster than ordinary SSDs. That helps database-heavy sites like WooCommerce stores.
• SShield – a security tool the provider advertises as included on its managed plans. We found no independent test of it.

Data Center Locations

ScalaHosting lists 24 cities in three groups on its network page. Four are its own: Dallas, New York, Seattle and Sofia in Bulgaria. Eleven are “Integrated Cloud” partner sites, mostly in Europe, such as Amsterdam, Stockholm and Warsaw. Thirteen run on Amazon Web Services (AWS), from Virginia to Tokyo and Mumbai.

What you can choose depends on the plan. Shared plans offer only Dallas, New York or an unnamed “Europe” option. The managed VPS order form offers 15 locations: the four ScalaHosting sites plus the 11 partner sites. The 13 AWS locations belong to a separate managed AWS product.

Performance Expectations

We measured network latency to ScalaHosting’s Dallas, New York and Seattle data centers from 10 countries on 28 September 2026. Latency means the round-trip time of a small test packet, in milliseconds (ms). It shows how close a data center is to your visitors. It doesn’t show how fast a website hosted there loads. We used Globalping, a free public measurement network, and kept only probes on home and mobile internet providers.

New York answered fastest from Europe, South America and most of Asia. From Mannheim it took 90.9 ms, against 129.4 ms for Dallas. Seattle won only from Brisbane and Kanayannur. No probe lost a single packet. We couldn’t measure Sofia, because the one ScalaHosting host we found there dropped most test packets. European visitors will still be better served by Sofia or a partner site in Europe than by any US location.

We found no independent uptime monitoring of ScalaHosting, and it runs no public status page. So there’s no outside record of outages to check its uptime promise against.

Customer Experience

Trustpilot score: 4.9 from 2,209 reviews. Of those, 2,164 are 5-star, which is 98% of the total. Only 17 reviews sit at 3 stars or below, under 1%. Just 120 arrived during the past 12 months. Most of the rating reflects earlier years.

Two facts put that near-perfect record in context. The profile carries a “Paid Trustpilot subscription” label, and ScalaHosting invites customers to review it. Of the 200 newest reviews, 165 came through the company’s own invitation links, and they average 4.99 stars. The other 35 reviewers found Trustpilot on their own and average 4.57. Every review of 3 stars or below in that sample came from this unprompted group.

Does that mean the reviews are fake? Nothing here suggests it. Invited reviews usually follow a solved support ticket, so they catch the service on a good day. Unprompted reviews are where the problems show.

What Customers Praise

Support speed is the dominant theme. Nearly half of the 200 newest reviews use a word like fast, quick or minutes, usually about live chat. ScalaHosting claims a 15-second average response time. Even critical reviewers credit the chat team: an August 2026 3-star VPS review calls it “generally quick to respond”.

Free migrations come next, mentioned in 21 of the 200 newest reviews. Customers moving from other hosts describe staff doing the transfer for them. Even an August 2026 1-star reviewer said the move itself went well before later problems began.

SPanel comes up in 18 of the 200 reviews, mostly as the easy part of the service. One Reddit buyer tested a free SPanel demo account before paying and found everything they were looking for.

Common Complaints

The clearest complaint in 2026 is CPU enforcement on shared plans. A September 2026 2-star reviewer spent three weeks fighting a limit shown nowhere on the plan pages. They say SPanel’s usage panel shows the limit as unlimited, and that support quoted 9% and then 5% for the same plan. ScalaHosting replied that the limits are in its terms of service. They are: Mini gets 3% of a server’s CPU and memory, Start 5% and Advanced 9%.

An August 2026 1-star review describes a site cut to a single PHP-FPM process after high CPU use. PHP-FPM is the component that runs a site’s PHP code, so fewer processes mean slower pages. ScalaHosting replied that the two sites got more than 3.1 million requests that month, against about 8,800 genuine ones. In short, bots.

VPS complaints are rarer and more varied. An August 2026 3-star review reports repeated SPanel issues and slowdowns that support linked to a data center problem. A May 2025 1-star review says ScalaHosting’s advice during a DDoS attack was to use Cloudflare’s “under attack” mode. Cloudflare is an outside security and caching service. A DDoS attack floods a server with fake requests until it stops responding. ScalaHosting replied publicly to all nine 1- and 2-star reviews on its profile.

What Reddit and the Forums Add

Reddit is thin for a host this size, and much of it is ScalaHosting’s own writing. Its staff post near-daily guides in r/ScalaHosting, so a search for the brand returns mostly marketing. We read the independent threads on 28 September 2026.

The positive side comes from a March 2026 r/webhosting thread. A user leaving SiteGround at renewal picked Entry Cloud, which they said cost half their SiteGround renewal. They liked the anytime refund and the SPanel demo, and reported two weeks later that it was working well.

The candid side matches Trustpilot. In a May 2026 r/Hosting thread, an owner of four low-traffic WordPress sites said bot traffic triggered CPU warnings and a PHP-FPM cut. Some pages took up to a minute to load. A June 2026 reply described the same warning on a site with 10 to 50 daily visitors. Most commenters blamed the bots rather than the host, but one called the process cut “not normal”.

A September 2026 reply in r/HostingReport sums up the community view. ScalaHosting is good for a managed VPS, “since that’s their main focus”, while for shared hosting “I’d probably look elsewhere”.

Support Quality

Technical support runs 24/7 by live chat, email and tickets. There’s no technical phone line. The phone number on the contact page is for pre-sales only, Monday to Friday, 2:30 AM to 5 PM Central time. Billing keeps the same weekday hours. The terms call technical help “best effort”, and work outside free support can cost extra, with your written approval first.

The reviews back the speed claim. Where support falls short, the issue is diagnosis rather than waiting. The September 2026 2-star review describes fast replies that misread the problem until a QA manager took over the case.

When to Use ScalaHosting

ScalaHosting makes most sense once you’ve outgrown shared hosting but don’t want to run a server yourself.

Good Fits

A small business moving to its first VPS: Build #1 gives you 2 cores and 4 GB with the server managed for you. SPanel, one backup and the migration are free. On a 36-month term, the USD 29.95 rate holds for the whole contract.

Agencies hosting many client sites: SPanel has no per-account fee. At ScalaHosting, a 30-account cPanel licence costs USD 41.95 a month, so the free panel saves real money across a client list.

Sites with a mainly North American audience: three of the four data centers ScalaHosting runs itself are in the US. New York answered in 16.4 ms from Philadelphia and 28.9 ms from Montreal in our test.

Buyers who want an exit: the prorated refund works after day 30, too. If a VPS stops fitting in month eight, the unused months come back.

You’ll Appreciate It If

When NOT to Use ScalaHosting

Several limits only appear in the terms of service or after a few months of real traffic.

Skip It If

You want the cheapest possible shared plan: Mini renews at 4.05 times its entry price and gets 3% of a server’s CPU. Hostinger Premium is USD 2.99 a month on a 48-month term and renews at USD 10.99, with room for 3 websites.

Your site draws heavy bot traffic on shared hosting: ScalaHosting’s blog says it won’t suspend an account that uses twice its share for 7 days. If nothing changes after 15 days in total, it limits the account’s PHP-FPM processes. Blocking bots yourself, or moving to a VPS, are the only ways out.

You send newsletters from shared hosting: the terms allow 500 emails per domain per hour on Mini and Start. The same section says that sending more than 5,000 a month needs a VPS or a dedicated server. Plan on the lower number.

You need cPanel on a small VPS: the cheapest cPanel licence costs USD 32.95 a month, more than Build #1 itself. That turns a USD 29.95 server into a USD 62.90 one.

Deal-Breakers to Check

ScalaHosting prints the renewal price in small grey text under each plan’s button. That’s more than many hosts show. The catch is the size of the jump on shared plans, and a default billing term that costs more over three years. Prices below are in USD per month, excluding VAT, as listed on scalahosting.com on 28 September 2026.

Renewal warning: Mini costs USD 2.95/mo for the first term, then USD 11.95/mo. That’s a 305% rise, or 4.05 times the entry price. Build #1, the entry managed VPS, goes from USD 29.95 to USD 54.95 a month, which is 1.83 times.

Entry Cloud and Managed VPS

Entry Cloud, the smaller WordPress server, costs USD 14.95 on a 12-month term and renews at USD 39.95.

Which term should you pick? Not the default. The VPS cards preselect 12 months, but Build #1 costs the same USD 29.95 a month on a 36-month term. Over three years, the 36-month term costs USD 1,078.20. Taking 12 months and then renewing costs USD 1,678.20, which is USD 600 more. On Build #2 to #4, the 36-month rate is higher per month but still cheaper overall. Build #2 costs USD 2,230.20 over 36 months, against USD 2,866.20 on the 12-month path.

Across the eight plans below, the renewal jump runs from 1.83 times on Build #1 to 4.05 times on Mini. The cheaper the plan, the bigger the multiple.

Config #1 has the same 2 cores, 4 GB and 50 GB as Build #1. Its renewal is only 1.25 times the entry price, the mildest jump on the site. The monthly and 6-month terms cost USD 24.95 from day one. You run the server yourself, although SPanel can be added for free.

Dedicated Servers

ScalaHosting’s plan pages don’t sell dedicated servers. The terms of service still list them, with activation in 2-4 hours and no money-back guarantee. Ask sales before counting on one.

Hidden Costs to Watch

• cPanel on a VPS: USD 32.95/mo for 5 accounts, rising to USD 73.95 for 100. That’s more than Build #1’s USD 29.95 first-term price, so Build #1 with cPanel costs USD 62.90 a month, then USD 87.90 at renewal.
• VPS backups: one backup copy is free. Three copies cost USD 6/mo and seven cost USD 15/mo. Shared plans keep 7 daily backups at no charge.
• LiteSpeed: OpenLiteSpeed, the free version of this fast web server, is included. The commercial LiteSpeed Web Server starts at USD 10/mo.
• Proactive 24/7 monitoring: USD 15/mo on managed VPS plans.
• Domain: a .com costs USD 16.95 a year after the free first year. If you take a refund, the free domain is billed at that price.
• Migration: free from another host, but not between two ScalaHosting servers unless you upgrade.
• Chargeback fee: USD 20 on top of the disputed amount.
• SSL certificates: free, from Let’s Encrypt. SSL encrypts traffic and gives your address the HTTPS padlock.

ScalaHosting calls its refund policy an “anytime money-back guarantee”. New clients get a full refund within 30 days, then a partial refund for unused time at any point after that. It covers shared, reseller and VPS hosting. Existing clients who place a new order don’t qualify.

ScalaHosting is fairly priced as a managed VPS host and poor value as a cheap shared host. Build #1’s 1.83x renewal is mild for this market, and USD 54.95 buys a managed server with a free panel and backups. Mini’s USD 2.95 lasts one term only. Budget USD 11.95 a month from the second term, or pick another host.

ScalaHosting Transparency Score

ScalaHosting is open about its prices and slow to put its limits where buyers look.

• Company Information: Good – the legal name, Dallas street address and founding year are public, and ScalaHosting runs its own registered network. The About page names its leaders by first name and initial only.
• Pricing Transparency: Good – every plan card shows its renewal price, although in small grey text. The VPS cards default to the 12-month term, which costs more over three years.
• Technical Documentation: Limited – the 3% to 12% CPU caps appear only in the terms of service, not on the plan cards. There’s no public status page.
