What Is Split-Tunneling?
- Short Definition:
- Split-tunneling enables users to have control over the VPN’s connectivity for specific applications, games, and services.
- Extended Definition:
- With split tunneling, you have the freedom to determine which of your connected entities utilize the VPN for communication and which ones utilize your regular, non-VPN connection.
Consider a scenario where a user employs a remote access VPN software client to establish a connection with a school network while utilizing a public wireless network, such as one found in a park. Assuming the user has enabled split tunneling, they gain the ability to connect to various servers within the corporate network, including file servers, database servers, mail servers, and other servers, by leveraging the VPN connection.
