DreamHost has sold hosting since 1997 and says it hosts over 1.5 million websites for more than 400,000 顧客. It is still privately owned. A DreamHost staff account restated that on Reddit on 25 9月 2026. The range now runs from shared hosting to dedicated servers, plus an AI site builder called Remixer.

Growth and Scale.
• DreamPress: マネージドWordPressホスティング, where DreamHost handles WordPress updates. Plans start at one site and 15 GB, with staging and a CDN (コンテンツ配信ネットワーク, which serves files from locations near each visitor).
VPS: a share of one physical machine with RAM and CPU set aside for you. DreamHost runs the server for you. Entry specs are 2 コア, 2 GB RAMと 60 GB NVMe.
The Stack 4 entry plan has 2 AMD EPYC vCPU (仮想プロセッサコア), 4 GB RAMと 75 GB NVMe. You handle security and updates.
• 専用サーバー: fully managed machines with AMD EPYC processors. The Standard plan has 6 コア, 16 GB RAMと 480 RAID 内の GB SSD 1 (two drives mirroring each other).

Features That Set It Apart

These are the features that matter most when you compare DreamHost with other budget hosts:

• Room for many sites: Launch hosts InMotion’s Launch plan allows 2, and Namecheap’s Stellar allows 3.
• 毎日の自動バックアップ: included on every shared tier, which saves you from buying a backup add-on.
• 従量制帯域幅: no monthly traffic allowance, though DreamHost’s small print applies “fair-use and resource policies”.
• 月々の請求: you can pay monthly instead of prepaying for years. You pay more for that flexibility, as the pricing section shows.
• A custom control panel: DreamHost’s knowledge base says “cPanel is not available at DreamHost”. cPanel is the control panel most other hosts use. Tutorials written for cPanel won’t match its menus.

Amsterdam opened on 11 2月 2025 as DreamHost’s first site outside the US. DreamHost said at launch that new DreamPress customers nearer Europe would be placed there. Singapore followed on 25 行進 2026 for Southeast Asia.

Distance matters here. The farther a visitor is from the server, the more latency (waiting time before the first byte arrives) each page picks up. DreamHost’s documentation describes no way to pick a location at checkout. To move a site, you contact support. The same help article admits that a site’s web and database servers are “たまに” placed in different data centers, which slows the site down. Dedicated servers stay in the US.

No monitoring service we could cite publishes current speed or uptime numbers for DreamHost. The benchmarks that turn up in search come from review sites, not from monitoring services. DreamHost’s own status feed is more telling. 間 28 August and 20 9月 2026 it posted five incidents affecting shared hosting.

Two of those ran long. の上 28 8月, the first post came at 12:41 PM Pacific and “Resolved” で 7:36 午後, nearly seven hours later. の上 15 September the gap was 7 時間 12 分. The 20 September incident touched Amsterdam as well as both US sites. Those gaps measure the status posts, not the downtime of any one site.

A Timeline of Policy Changes

DreamHost prints a “最終更新日” date on each version of its terms of service, and the Wayback Machine keeps the old ones. Here are the versions that changed something, by the date printed on them:

• 11 2月 2025: the Amsterdam data center opens.
2025: the 97-day refund on shared hosting becomes a 30-day refund covering shared, DreamPress and VPS plans.
2026: a new clause lets DreamHost charge “Unsupported Software Maintenance Fees” for outdated software.
2026: the Singapore data center opens.
2026: self-managed VPS and Remixer are removed from the refund.
2026: the exclusion now reads “VPS”, with no exception for managed VPS.

Four of those six changes cut what you can get refunded or add a charge. The other two, the new data centers, work in your favour.

DreamHost holds a Trustpilot score of 4.6 から 8,220 レビュー, と 702 posted in the last 12 月. The spread is lopsided. それだけ 615 レビュー, 7.5%, fall between the two: 400 四つ星, 123 three-star and 92 二つ星.

Nearly nine in ten reviews give five stars, and one-star reviews outnumber four-star ones.

Does a score this high rest on reviews the company asked for? Not here. の 200 最新のレビュー, posted 5 June to 26 9月 2026, 177 オーガニックだった, meaning the reviewer came to Trustpilot unprompted. 177 still averaged 4.41. The 23 invited reviews averaged 4.83.

Two details on the profile are worth knowing. DreamHost pays for a Trustpilot subscription and has replied to 73% 否定的なレビューの. Its dedicated server page, でも, says DreamHost is “定格 4.7 から 5 Trustpilot で”, while the live score is 4.6.

Support staff get most of the credit. Positive reviews name individual agents and describe them as patient, quick and willing to stay on a chat until the fix works. Trustpilot’s own summary of recent reviews leads with the same theme.

Long-term stability for simple sites is the second theme. Several Reddit users in September 2026 said they had hosted with DreamHost for 15 に 20 years with few problems.

The control panel gets occasional credit too. One customer who moved from shared hosting to a managed VPS called the dashboard “pretty swank”.

We read every one-star and two-star review from 12 8月 2025 に 22 9月 2026. There were 80, から 74 別の人; one reviewer posted four times. Billing is the largest theme. It includes charges after cancellation, domains that auto-renewed, and long-time customers paying more than new ones.

80 describe an account being disabled, rejected at signup or terminated with little explanation. Six criticise the Remixer AI builder, including its pay-per-use AI credits. Several others report email outages, including one customer whose mail was “down for over 10 日々” 十一月に 2025.

2026, describe the PHP Extended Support fee appearing without notice. Both customers had used DreamHost for years.

Reddit

Reddit shows the changes that longtime customers resent, which rarely surface on Trustpilot. The biggest in 2026 was the end of DreamHost’s hosted Mailman mailing lists. List owners got notice in May 2026 that the feature would close in about two months. By July, users on r/dreamhost reported deletion dates of 21 また 31 7月.

The PHP fee drew the angriest thread. 2026, a customer of more than 20 years said a failed automatic PHP upgrade had added a USD 5 monthly charge. The charges built up unnoticed until the account was disabled. DreamHost fixed it and refunded the charges after the post. The customer’s verdict: “Reddit support was far better than the support I got through their portal.”

That pattern repeats. A DreamHost staff account answers most complaint threads. 2026, a terminated ecommerce account was reactivated about a day after the owner posted about it. Another dispute is still open: one user says forward-only email addresses now need a paid email plan, while DreamHost says they always did.

24/7 through live chat and email tickets inside the DreamHost panel. DreamHost’s support page promises a ticket response “in less than an hour” and a chat “未満で 60 秒”. Chat may start with an AI assistant, and you can ask for a person.

There is no phone number to call. DreamHost’s knowledge base says the only way to talk to someone is a callback request. A single callback costs USD 9.95, 14.95 a month for three. Dedicated servers and the upper DreamPress plans include free callbacks.

The first sentence rules out a call-in line, and the second table prices the callbacks. DreamHost knowledge base,

Real-world waits vary. Most reviews describe fast, capable help. 5月 2026 Reddit thread described waiting 20 minutes for a chat after three tickets failed to fix a blocked IP address.

When to Use DreamHost

DreamHost works best for buyers with modest, predictable needs who will read the pricing terms before paying.

People running several small sites: Launch hosts 25 websites for USD 2.89/mo in year one. A blogger with a few side projects can keep them all on one account instead of paying per site.

Budget buyers ready to commit: the four-year Launch term costs USD 1.99/mo and renews at USD 7.99. If you already know DreamHost suits you, that’s the cheapest way to run Launch.

Developers who want a cheap, uncapped VPS: スタック 4 与える 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAMと 75 GB NVMe for USD 5.99/mo over two years. KVM 1 costs more for 1 vCPU と 50 GB.

• You want help at 3 午前: chat and tickets run around the clock, and reviews rate the staff highly.
• You dislike prepaying: DreamHost still sells month-to-month shared hosting.
• Your visitors are in Europe or Southeast Asia: Amsterdam and Singapore put servers closer to them. Ask support to place your site there.

When NOT to Use DreamHost

The problems with DreamHost show up after signup: 更新時, when an old site needs maintenance, or when you want your money back.

Better Off Elsewhere If

Testing a server before you commit: DreamHost’s terms exclude “Email Service, 専用サーバー, VPS, Remixer, and DreamCompute” from the 30-day guarantee. A VPS or dedicated server is paid for the moment you order it.

The excluded products are listed in the first sentence. DreamHost terms of service,

Old sites you can’t upgrade: a site stuck on PHP 8.1 or older triggers PHP Extended Support fees. They run from USD 5 に 25 月. An agency with a dozen legacy client sites would pay USD 15 a month for doing nothing.

Heavy use of email or mailing lists: Mailman lists are gone, email costs extra after three months, and email outages recur in the one-star reviews. A dedicated provider from our メールホスティングガイド is the safer home for business mail.

• You need to talk to someone by phone: there is no call-in line, and callbacks cost USD 9.95 each on most plans.
• You’ll stay on the one-year term: Launch jumps from USD 2.89 米ドルへ 10.99 a month in year two.
• You need a real uptime remedy: the “100% 稼働時間” credit is capped at 10% of your next renewal fee.
• You’d struggle if your account were suspended: 少なくとも 10 recent one- and two-star reviews describe exactly that.

Need a server you can return? A refundable VPS is covered in the alternatives below, そして私たちの VPS ホスティング ガイド compares more options.

DreamHost Plans and Pricing

DreamHost prints the renewal price under every plan card, and the checkout repeats it. That’s more candour than many budget hosts manage. The catch is how much your price depends on the billing term. All prices below are in USD, VATを除く, and were read from dreamhost.com on 27 9月 2026.

更新の警告: Web Hosting Launch costs 2.89ドル/月 for the first year and then renews at 10.99ドル/月.

The pricing page shows the one-year term by default. Here is what each tier costs on that term:

Longer terms cut both the entry price and the renewal price. 11.99. The one-year term is USD 2.89, USDで更新 10.99. Two years cost USD 2.49, USDで更新 8.99. Four years cost USD 1.99, USDで更新 7.99.

Each pair shows the intro price and the renewal price per month for the same Launch plan.

Here’s the mistake to avoid. Launch costs USD 95.52 on the four-year term, 前払い. Start on the one-year term and renew each year, and the same four years cost USD 430.32. The four-year deal only makes sense if you’re sure about DreamHost,

The checkout adds one more thing. When we put Launch in the cart, it arrived with Professional Email already added. The first three months are free. After that the mailbox renews at USD 19.99 a year unless you remove it.

The email mailbox sits in the cart before you choose anything. Its renewal line reads “then $19.99/1yr”. DreamHost cart,

USD 14.99/mo for the first year (DreamPress 1) | で更新します: 19.99ドル/月

DreamPress renews far more gently, DreamPress 1 covers one site, 15 GB and about 40,000 毎月の訪問. また、 14 バックアップ保持日数, one-click staging and a free professional site migration. A three-year term costs USD 11.99 USDで更新されます 16.99.

Managed VPS Business: USD 13.75/mo for the first year | で更新します: USD 31.99/mo

Self-managed Stack 4: USD 5.99/mo on a two-year term |

The checkout confirmed both. 4 on monthly billing is USD 8.99 3ヶ月間, 次に米ドル 15.99. Remember that neither VPS type is refundable.

USD 119.99/mo for the first year,

That is the Standard server with 6 コアと 16 GB RAM. The 12-core Enhanced line starts at USD 229/mo. DreamHost’s terms call dedicated payments “NONREFUNDABLE”, so a 12-month prepayment stays paid even if you leave in month two.

• Eメール: free for three months on shared plans, 次に米ドル 19.99 a year per mailbox.
PHP is the language WordPress runs on. The fee applies to sites still on PHP 5.6 に 8.1 and renews monthly.
14.95 a month for three.
• SSL and backups: 無料のSSL証明書 (the encryption behind the padlock in the browser bar) and daily automated backups on every shared tier.
• ドメイン: free for the first year on annual and longer plans. DreamHost itself advises checking the domain’s renewal price before you choose one.

The PHP charge deserves a closer look. DreamHost upgrades compatible sites to a supported PHP version every year. If an upgrade fails, DreamHost rolls the site back to its old PHP version. A site left on PHP 8.1 or older is what the fee covers.

The fee is billed per account tier, and the line under the four boxes says it renews monthly. DreamHost PHP Extended Support page,

DreamHost’s intro prices are competitive, and its renewal prices are visible before you pay. That’s to its credit. But Launch at USD 131.88 a year after the first term is not a budget price any more. Buy the longest term you’re comfortable with, delete the email add-on unless you need it, and keep your PHP version current.

DreamHost Transparency Score

DreamHost publishes more than most hosts, and it dates every change to its terms. Where it falls short is the uptime promise and some of its marketing claims.

DreamHost names its CEO, Michael Rodriguez, and its founding year. Its only published address, in Brea, カリフォルニア, is a private mailbox.
Renewal prices sit under every plan card and again in the cart. Two things take points off: the preselected email add-on, と “保存” badges measured against the monthly price rather than the renewal.
スペック, visit limits and the four data centers are published. The callback article still names older DreamPress plans than the ones on sale, そしてその “Rated 4.7” claim is out of date.
The terms are plainly written and every version is dated. The refund scope still changed three times in 13 月, and the uptime guarantee is weaker than its headline, as the clause below shows.

The uptime clause promises “100% 稼働時間”. The remedy is one day of hosting credit per hour of outage, 上限 10% of your next pre-paid renewal. Downtime is only counted from the moment you open a support ticket.

4 hold the cap and the ticket rule. DreamHost terms of service,

You can find every price and every rule. What you have to do is read the terms rather than the badges.

Alternatives to DreamHost

Each option below fixes one gap from the previous sections: the short refund window and missing phone line, 更新価格, or the non-refundable VPS.

InMotion gives a 90-day money-back guarantee on shared hosting, three times DreamHost’s window. Phone support comes with its Power plan and above. InMotion’s entry price is USD 4.79 月, 米ドルに上昇 14.99 更新について, and that plan covers just two sites.

For Cheaper Renewals: Namecheap

Namecheap’s Stellar plan renews at USD 55.88 a year after its 19 5月 2026 価格上昇. DreamHost Launch renews at USD 131.88 1年. 20 GB, so it suits smaller setups. 私たちを読む 名前安いレビュー for its other trade-offs.

For a VPS You Can Return: Hostinger

2026, lets you refund a KVM VPS within 30 日々, once every 180 日々. KVM 1 costs USD 6.49/mo on a two-year term and renews at USD 11.99. You get fewer resources than DreamHost’s Stack 4. Fewer resources can be a fair price for the right to change your mind.

Namecheap is the budget pick. InMotion is the premium one: it costs more than DreamHost but gives the longest guarantee and a phone line on its bigger plans.

DreamHost earns its 4.6 から 7,749 reviews on the strength of its people. Its support staff are the reason long-time customers stay, and its prices are published honestly.

Buy DreamHost if you run several small sites, can commit to a two- or four-year term, and keep your software up to date. Skip it if you want a refundable server, 電話回線, or a low price in year two on the one-year term.

The 4.6 score is real, and so are the new fees. Pick InMotion if a long refund window and phone support matter most. Pick Namecheap if renewal price comes first. For a VPS you can return, Hostinger is the safer bet.

Whichever you choose, compare the renewal price and the refund terms, not the first-year price. That is where DreamHost has changed most since 2025.

Can one DreamHost Launch plan run several websites?

25 GB of NVMe storage and about 40,000 毎月の訪問. Growth raises that to 50 sites and Scale to 100. All three include daily backups and free SSL.

How much does DreamHost cost after the first year?

10.99 a month on the one-year term, 2.89. On the four-year term, it renews at USD 7.99. Growth renews at USD 12.99 and Scale at USD 25.99 1年の任期で.

Why do some long-time customers leave DreamHost?

Most cite features that DreamHost removed or started charging for. The Mailman lists closed in 2026, and old PHP versions now cost USD 5 に 25 月. Others mention email outages and accounts disabled without clear notice.

DreamHost or InMotion: which suits a small business site?

InMotion suits a business that wants a 90-day refund and phone support on its bigger plans. DreamHost suits one running several sites cheaply, since Launch hosts 25 sites to InMotion’s two. DreamHost’s first-year price is lower,

What is DreamHost’s PHP Extended Support charge?

It’s a monthly fee for sites still running PHP 5.6 に 8.1, which no longer get official updates. 5 for one site and USD Upgrading the site’s PHP version removes it automatically.

Can I get a refund on a DreamHost VPS?

いいえ, not since DreamHost’s terms dated 27 8月 2026, which leave every VPS outside the 30-day guarantee. 専用サーバー, email and Remixer are excluded too. Shared hosting and DreamPress keep the 30-day refund for card and PayPal payments.
