Hostgator – 15986 Kundenbewertungen: Analyse (Okt 2026) - DEUTSCH

Our Average Score for HostGator is 4.2 aus 5, calculated from 15,986 Kundenbewertungen.

This review is built from HostGator’s own pricing pages, terms and status page, all read in September 2026. It also draws on 17,843 Trustpilot reviews and recent Reddit threads. We didn’t buy a plan or run speed tests. Several reviews ranking for HostGator still promise unlimited storage or a 45-day refund, and neither exists today. We also split HostGator’s newest Trustpilot reviews by who asked for them, and that split explains the high score.

Schnelles Urteil: HostGator earns 4.2/5 on our method and 4.6 auf Trustpilot. Customers praise fast, freundlicher Chat-Support. The most common complaints are renewal bills, auto-renewal charges and outages. It suits a small site owner who prepays three years and has budgeted for the renewal.

Funktionen und Dienste

HostGator has sold hosting since 2002 and calls itself “Texas raised”, naming Austin and Houston as home. Its About page doesn’t name the owner. Newfold Digital lists HostGator among its brands, next to Bluehost and BigRock. Most products run on cPanel, the control panel most shared hosts use.

Angebotene Hosting-Typen

• Shared Hosting: four plans, von 10 Websites auf 10 GB of SSD storage up to 100 Websites auf 100 GB.
• WordPress-Hosting: the Baby, Business and Pro shared plans at the same prices. The buy buttons on both pages carry identical package codes, so this is shared hosting under a WordPress label.
• Selbstverwalteter VPS: four virtual private server (VPS) Pläne, each a walled-off slice of a physical server. They run on NVMe storage (ein schnellerer SSD-Typ), mit Root-Zugriff (full administrator control) and Claude Code pre-installed. The page states that cPanel and 24/7 priority support aren’t included.
• Verwaltetes VPS: three cPanel plans with 2 zu 8 vCPU-Kerne (virtuelle Prozessorkerne). HostGator handles updates and monitoring.
• Reseller-Hosting: the reseller page sells the same three managed VPS plans. Archived copies show no separate reseller plans since at least October 2024.
• Dedizierte Server: three servers on AMD EPYC server processors, mit 8, 16 oder 32 cores and DDR5 memory.

What You Actually Get on a Shared Plan

Reviewers rarely praise a HostGator feature by name. What they praise is the person on the chat. So the list below is about what matters once you’re a customer, not about what the plan cards advertise.

• Free SSL and a CDN: every plan includes a Let’s Encrypt certificate and Cloudflare’s CDN (a network that caches your pages closer to visitors).
• Developer tools on every tier: SSH (secure command-line access), WP-CLI (a command-line tool for managing WordPress) and a staging site for testing changes. That’s unusual at USD 3.75 ein Monat.
• Backups with conditions: HostGator takes “Höflichkeit” Backups, but restoring one costs USD 49. Its terms also drop any shared account over 20 GB from off-site backup, except databases.
• A file limit: the terms cap each account at 200,000 Inodes (one inode per file or folder). Big WordPress sites with many image sizes reach this before they fill the disk.
• PHP 8.2: the shared plan page names PHP 8.2 as its supported version. According to php.net, PHP 8.2 stops getting security fixes on 31 Dezember 2026. Ask which newer version your server runs before you buy.

Standorte von Rechenzentren

HostGator’s help center says “most of our servers reside in Provo, Utah, und Atlanta, Georgia”. You can’t choose which one hosts your site. For visitors in North America that’s close enough. For an audience in Europe or Asia, every uncached request crosses an ocean, so the Cloudflare CDN matters more. The same help center adds that HostGator’s servers aren’t HIPAA compliant, which rules out storing US patient health data.

The outlined sentence names HostGator’s two main server locations; the line below it rules out picking one. HostGator help center, gefangen genommen 25 September 2026.

Leistungserwartungen

No independent test of HostGator’s speed or uptime from the past six months turned up in our search. HostGator’s own status page is the best record available, and summer 2026 was busy. It logged nine incidents in nine weeks.

July began with a partial outage on 2 July that hit hosting, email and DNS (the service that points your domain at your server). An intermittent hosting incident closed on 8 Juli. A major outage followed on 15 und 16 Juli, then a website and email incident closed on 21 Juli. A VPS incident closed on 25 Juli. Auf 11 August a three-hour major outage hit hosting and mail. An intermittent hosting incident closed on 3 September, and two account manager incidents closed on 4 September.

Each marker is one incident from HostGator’s public status history; the two orange markers are the ones HostGator itself labels major outages. Quelle: hostgator.com/status/history, lesen 25 September 2026.

HostGator blamed the July outage on “an issue in one of our vendor facilities”. The incident opened at 4:37 pm EST on 15 July and was marked resolved at 1:04 bin, Über 8.5 Stunden später. If it reached your site, that one outage used more than a month’s allowance under a 99% Verfügbarkeitsversprechen.

Kundenerfahrung

HostGator’s Trustpilot score is 4.6 von 17,843 Bewertungen, 2,592 davon im letzten 12 Monate. That’s the TrustScore, Trustpilot’s rating, which gives recent reviews more weight. The distribution is lopsided. 79.7% of reviews are five-star and 13.2% sind ein Stern. Four-star (3.7%), Drei Sterne (1.7%) and two-star (1.7%) barely register. A simple average of those stars comes to 4.35, lower than the TrustScore.

Note the long five-star bar, the short but clear one-star bar, and the Paid Trustpilot subscription label beside the claimed-profile badge. Trustpilot, gefangen genommen 25 September 2026.

Why so few reviews in the middle? The answer is in how the reviews arrive. We checked the 200 neueste Bewertungen, posted from 14 August to 24 September 2026. 176 came through HostGator’s own invitation links and averaged 4.90 Sterne. Der andere 24 waren organisch, written by people who went to Trustpilot unprompted. They averaged 1.88, und 18 des 24 were one-star.

Both groups are real customers. Invitations tend to go out after a support chat, so they catch HostGator on a good day. Organic reviews get written when something has gone wrong. HostGator replied to 197 derer 200 Bewertungen.

Was Kunden loben

Support-Mitarbeiter, above all. Von der 60 newest five-star reviews, 37 Erwähnen Sie die Unterstützung, chatten oder helfen, often thanking an agent by name. Twelve mention speed, such as a quick answer or a fix in one chat.

These reviews are short, with a median length of 81 Figuren. Typical examples read “Toller Kundenservice. Schnelle Antwort” oder “Smooth SSL update”. None of the 60 mentions uptime, and only three mention price.

Tasks that one agent can finish in a single chat get the best marks. Examples are a domain change, an SSL certificate or a phishing email confirmed as fake.

Häufige Beschwerden

Wir lesen die 160 newest one- und Zwei-Sterne-Bewertungen, ab Oktober 2024 to September 2026, und 138 of them were organic. Support problems appear in 104 von ihnen. Abrechnung, Erneuerung, refund or cancellation comes up in 74.

The billing complaints come mostly from long-term customers. One reviewer received “a bill for 300% my usual bill” after more than ten years. Another was charged USD 1,300, “13 X last years cost”, and told it was a three-year contract. Two more describe charges for services they never ordered, set to auto-renew.

Support complaints describe loops more than rudeness. One reviewer with a hacked server got ticket replies every 24 Std, each asking one new question. Others describe waiting days for DNS fixes while their email and website stayed down. The worst cases involve sites that were never restored.

What Reddit Adds

Reddit is harsher than Trustpilot, and nobody invites people to post there. Wir lesen die 100 newest posts mentioning HostGator, bis zu 24 September 2026.

The July outage produced a thread in r/HostGator on 16 July titled “If your hostgator website is down, this is why”. One commenter wrote that it had “been 8 Std” and they had “a lot of angry clients”. Another said customers stay only because migrating feels daunting. A reply pointed out that almost every host imports cPanel accounts.

Two warnings came up in more than one thread. The first is billing after cancellation. One user says auto-renewal switched itself back on after they cancelled, and another found a USD 112 charge at least five years after leaving. A third needed a support request just to remove a saved card. The second warning is lost sites. One owner described eight years of posts gone after months of DNS fixes. The replies suggested rebuilding the site from the Wayback Machine.

We found almost no positive HostGator threads. The kindest recurring comment is that it’s cheap. Eine Warnung: a June thread about a two-week reseller email outage was partly written with AI, as its author admitted. Weigh it lower than the others.

Support-Qualität

Chat runs 24/7 auf jedem Plan, and phone support comes with Baby and above, beim (866) 964-2867. Refunds must be requested by phone or chat, according to the terms. Quick account tasks get fixed fast and earn five stars. Server-level problems, such as an outage, a hacked account or a failed migration, are what the one-star reviews describe.

When to Use HostGator

HostGator makes sense when your plan fits the promo pricing and you won’t need much help from its engineers.

Good Fits

A small site on a three-year budget: Hatchling at USD 3.75 a month covers ten small sites with SSL, a CDN and staging. If you move before the term ends, you never pay the renewal price.

Someone comfortable running a Linux server: the self-managed NVMe 2 Plan kostet USD 2.64 und verlängert sich für nur USD 4.95. That’s HostGator’s fairest renewal, and you don’t depend on support for fixes.

Owners who value chat help for small tasks: DNS changes, SSL renewals and account questions are what HostGator’s agents handle well, according to its reviews.

You’ll Like It If

• You want cPanel and WP-CLI on the cheapest plan, because HostGator includes SSH and staging from Hatchling up.
• Your visitors are in North America, because the servers sit in Utah and Georgia.
• You’ll set a calendar reminder for renewal, because every plan card prints its renewal price.

When NOT to Use HostGator

The weak spots are the ones you meet in year four or during an outage, not on the sign-up page.

Schauen Sie woanders hin, wenn

Your site is your business: nine status-page incidents in nine weeks is a poor record, and the terms promise no uptime figure. If downtime costs you sales, you want a host that puts an uptime number in its contract.

You’re counting on HostGator’s backups: each restore costs USD 49, and accounts over 20 GB lose off-site file backups. Keep your own copies somewhere else, whatever host you pick.

You’ll keep the site longer than three years: Baby’s USD 16.49 renewal is where the value disappears. A host with a smaller first-to-renewal gap works out cheaper over six years.

You’re in India: HostGator India merged into BigRock in July 2025. Indian buyers now order from BigRock, a separate storefront with its own prices and plans.

Warnsignale für Ihre Situation

• You want to pay monthly and keep a refund option: the 30-day guarantee excludes monthly terms.
• You pay by bank transfer or another method: refunds are available for PayPal and card payments only.
• You need phone support on the cheapest plan: Hatchling is chat only.
• You handle patient health data: HostGator says its servers aren’t HIPAA compliant.

Two alternatives below cover the biggest gaps. InMotion offers a longer refund window and much more storage, and DreamHost includes daily backups.

HostGator Plans and Pricing

HostGator prints the renewal price under every plan, which plenty of budget hosts don’t. Der Haken ist der Begriff. Every shared price on the page is for 36 Monate im Voraus bezahlt, and there’s no term selector to show anything else.

Verlängerungswarnung: the Baby plan starts at USD 4.50/mo und erneuert bei USD 16.49/mo, ein 266% Zunahme. Three years at the promo rate cost USD 162.00, and the next three cost USD 593.64. Over six years Baby averages USD 10.50 ein Monat, more than double the advertised price.

The term and the renewal price sit in small grey text under each promo price; the outline marks the plan HostGator labels Recommended. HostGator shared hosting page, gefangen genommen 25 September 2026.

Shared Hosting

The plan HostGator recommends carries the steepest jump.

Each pale bar is the first-term price and the darker bar below it is what the same plan costs on renewal. Quelle: HostGator shared hosting plan cards, prices read 25 September 2026.

Hatchling’s support is “Chat Only”. Phone support starts on Baby. Business and Pro add domain privacy for the first year. Pro was added in 2025 and is the only tier with 100 GB.

WordPress Hosting

Beginnt um: USD 4.50/mo | Erneuert sich um: USD 16.49/mo

These are the Baby, Business and Pro plans above, with the same prices and multipliers. Don’t pay more thinking you’re getting a separate managed WordPress platform.

VPS-Hosting

Beginnt um: USD 2.64/mo | Erneuert sich um: 4,95 USD/Monat

The self-managed plans have the mildest renewal in HostGator’s catalog. The page doesn’t print their term, but the buy links carry a two-year term. Managed plans are priced for a 36-month term.

Look at the NVMe 4 Reihe. The same specification renews at USD 9.35 self-managed and USD 68.99 gelang es, a 7.4x difference. That gap pays for cPanel and HostGator’s management. If you can run a Linux server yourself, it’s the best value HostGator sells.

Dedizierte Server

Beginnt um: USD 144.19/mo | Erneuert sich um: USD 191.79/mo

Wert (8 Kerne, 32 GB, 1,000 GB NVMe) renews at 1.33x. Leistung (16 Kerne, 64 GB) lists at USD 241.79 Verlängerung bei USD 279.37. Unternehmen (32 Kerne, 128 GB) lists at USD 346.79 Verlängerung bei USD 401.77. The comparison table further down the same page prices Power at USD 220.19 and Enterprise at USD 315.19. Confirm the price in the cart before paying. The terms also state that HostGator doesn’t back up dedicated servers.

Versteckte Kosten, die es zu beachten gilt

• Backup-Wiederherstellung: US Dollar 49.00 zur Wiederherstellung, according to HostGator’s help center.
• Kostenlose Domain: cancel within the first year and HostGator deducts a USD 22.99 domain fee from your refund.
• Migration: the plan cards list a “Free Site Migration Tool”, while the comparison table says “Paid Migration Available”. Ask which applies before you rely on it.
• Gutscheine: gemäß den Bedingungen, a coupon applies to your first purchase only and never lowers a renewal.
• Monatliche Abrechnung: the money-back guarantee doesn’t apply to monthly terms.

Preisurteil

For the first three years, HostGator is competitively priced. Nachdem, Baby and Business cost more than hosts that charge their normal rate from day one. The common mistake is picking the “Empfohlen” Baby plan without doing the renewal math. Before you pick a plan, multiply the renewal price by the years you expect to stay.

HostGator Transparency Score

Prices are easy to find. What HostGator commits to on uptime is much harder to pin down.

• Firmeninformation: Begrenzt. The About page never names Newfold Digital. It still claims customers “from India to South Africa”, although HostGator India’s customers moved to BigRock in July 2025.
• Preistransparenz: Gut. Jeder geteilt, VPS and dedicated card prints its renewal price. Two faults cost it a higher grade. The VPS page doesn’t state its term, and the dedicated page shows two prices for the same two plans.
• Technische Dokumentation: Begrenzt. HostGator’s product pages give three different uptime figures. The shared plan page promises “99% Betriebszeit”, the managed VPS and dedicated pages say 99.9%, and the self-managed VPS page says 99.99%. The terms of service page, last modified 10 Juni 2026, doesn’t mention uptime once.
• Bedingungen & Richtlinien: Good on refunds, Limited on service levels. The refund rules are clear about exclusions. But the status page tells customers to check “the SLA terms in your hosting agreement”. Ein SLA (Service-Level-Agreement) is the clause that sets an uptime figure and a remedy, and the general terms contain none. HostGator’s old uptime-guarantee help article now returns a 404 Error.

HostGator’s shared hosting page promises 99% Betriebszeit, while its VPS pages say 99.9% und 99.99%. HostGator shared hosting page, gefangen genommen 25 September 2026.

Gesamttransparenz: Begrenzt. HostGator is honest about what you’ll pay. It’s vague about what you get if the service fails, und ein 99% promise allows about 7.3 hours of downtime a month anyway.

Alternatives to HostGator

Each option below fixes one of the gaps above: the renewal jump, the backup policy or the short refund window.

Prices come from each host’s own plan page, weiterlesen 25 September 2026. SiteGround’s figures are from its international USD page and exclude tax.

Budget Pick With Backups Included: DreamHost

DreamHost’s Launch plan renews at the same USD 10.99 as Hatchling, after a one-year term instead of three. Du erhältst 2.5 times the storage, and its plan card lists daily automated backups. Sehen Sie sich unsere an DreamHost-Rezension for its weak spots.

For More Storage and a Longer Refund: InMotion Hosting

InMotion’s Launch plan gives you 100 GB of NVMe storage and a 90-day money-back guarantee, three times HostGator’s window. It covers only two websites, obwohl. Die Migration ist kostenlos, and the card shows what you’ll pay on renewal. Unser InMotion Hosting review covers the rest.

Premium Pick for Daily Backups: SiteGround

SiteGround includes free daily backups and site migration on every plan, but StartUp hosts one site and renews at USD 17.99. Staging and on-demand backups start on GrowBig, bei USD 4.99 Verlängerung bei USD 29.99. Pay it if backups matter more than price. Lesen Sie unsere SiteGround-Überprüfung bevor Sie sich verpflichten.

Fazit

Dieses Ergebnis kopieren

HostGator scores 4.2 aus 5 on our method, über 15,986 Bewertungen. The number is fair for its chat support and its prices. It says little about what happens when a server fails.

Damit, Should You Buy It?

Buy it for a small site you’ll run for three years, and put the renewal date in your calendar. Don’t buy it for a revenue site, or for anything you can’t afford to lose without your own backups. The invited-versus-organic split tells the story: 4.90 when a chat fixes things, 1.88 when they don’t.

A cheap site with a three-year horizon suits HostGator. Choose DreamHost if you want included backups, InMotion if you need storage and a 90-day refund, and SiteGround if you’ll pay more for backups. Für das weitere Feld, sehen Sie unsere Shared-Hosting-Vergleich.
