Where Your Server Actually Sits

Location matters more than any feature list, and OVH doesn’t make it obvious. VPS and dedicated servers can sit in Sydney. Shared web hosting cannot. Its ordering system offers shared plans just three locations: Beauharnois in Canada, plus Gravelines in France. No Australian option, and no Asia-Pacific one either. OVH’s own Australian page admits it in passing, describing its services as sitting “within a secure, sovereign European infrastructure”.

So every page request travels to Europe and back. For shared hosting aimed at Australian customers, that alone is reason enough to look elsewhere.

“Our VPS solutions in the Asia-Pacific region (Bombay, Singapour, Sydney) come with a set monthly quota: 500 GB for VPS-1, 1 TB for VPS-2 and VPS-3, 3 TB for VPS-4. Au-delà de cela, the bandwidth is capped at 10 Mbps.”

You won’t be billed for overage. You’ll be throttled to 10 Mbps, which for a busy site is close to being offline. The identical plan in Europe or North America has no such cap. Sydney customers pay the same money for a metered service.
