Hostwinds has run since 2010, founded by CEO Peter Holden and based at 12101 Tukwila International Blvd in Seattle, Washington. For fifteen years it stayed independent, which was part of its appeal in developer circles. That changed on 29 avril 2026, when HostPapa announced it had acquired Hostwinds LLC. Every review dated before May 2026 therefore describes an independent company. Vents hôtes’ own About page still doesn’t mention HostPapa; the client portal footer does, and now reads “© 2010-2026 Vents hôtes, a HostPapa Inc. company.”

UNE 2020 r/sysadmin thread shows the consequence: after a multi-day outage, Hostwinds emailed customers admitting it “dropped below our SLA guarantee,” while the poster reported “no indication of any sort of compensation.”

People who hate renewal surprises: if a host has ever tripled your bill in year two, the flat pricing here is a relief. Note the store price rather than the advertised one, and the figure you write down stays the figure you pay.

Anyone needing US and EU presence from one account: Dallas, Seattle, and Amsterdam are selectable at checkout, with load balancing between them. For a business with customers on both sides of the Atlantic, that’s one vendor instead of two.

You want a meaningful money-back guarantee: this is the big one. Hostwinds once advertised 60 journées. Hostwinds Plans and Pricing

Credit first. Hostwinds runs no promotional-rate trick. There are no strikethrough prices, non “first term only” astérisques, and the words “se renouvelle à” appear nowhere on its site. The problem is different, and stranger.

Then a USD 3.00/mo backup add-on arrives pre-ticked. Budget USD 11.99/mo for the plan advertised at USD 6.99.

So why the warning? Because you can’t trust the number on the product page. Lis “6,99 USD/mois,” click through, and check out without unticking the backup box, and you pay USD 11.99/mo. We assess how upfront Hostwinds is with information that affects your buying decision:

That’s a host whose reputation was earned earlier than its current customers experienced it. The infrastructure is real and the flat pricing is a real advantage. The 72-hour refund window and the terms that disclaim your data aren’t things you can work around, only things you can plan for.

Buy it if you’re technical, you keep your own backups, and you want cheap US or Dutch servers you can provision in minutes. Skip it if you’re new to hosting, if downtime costs you money, or if you might want out in week two. And whatever you buy, note the price in the cart, not the price in the ad.

It’s adequate. Softaculous installs WordPress in one click on every shared plan, and Business Hosting adds LiteSpeed, which serves pages faster than Apache. What’s missing is the managed-WordPress toolkit: pas de mise en scène, no automatic core updates, backups only as a paid add-on. Website Planet measured LCP, or Largest Contentful Paint, at 665ms on an empty WordPress site and 1.5s on a built one. Fine numbers. Just don’t expect a WordPress specialist.
