What’s left of the CenturyLink brand is home and small business internet, teléfono, and TV.
This review covers three things. What CenturyLink sells in 2026, what its hosting cost before it vanished, and what about 9,000 customer reviews say. Most reviews of this provider still quote hosting plans at 2019 precios. We did the opposite. We tested the storefront ourselves and pulled the last real price list out of the archives. We also read what the community says about running a server on a CenturyLink line.
Evaluación general: CenturyLink scores 1.1/5 a través de 1,961 reviews on one platform and 1.0/5 a través de 5,538 on another. On hosting-specific platforms it ranks 6,941st out of 7,012 compañías. Its strengths are network reach and no-contract billing. The common complaints are billing errors, outages measured in weeks, and support customers describe as unreachable. Best suited for nobody who needs web hosting.

Características y servicios
To review CenturyLink fairly you have to separate three things that share a name. There’s CenturyLink the consumer internet brand. There’s Lumen Technologies, the parent company that sells to enterprises. And there’s the CenturyLink hosting product that used to exist and now doesn’t.
Tipos de hosting ofrecidos
As of end of July 2026, ninguna. Here’s what we checked:
- Hosting Compartido – Discontinued. The old plans were sold through CenturyLink Marketplace, which is offline.
- Alojamiento VPS – Never offered to small customers.
- Servidores dedicados – Only through Lumen’s enterprise arm, sólo cotización.
- Alojamiento en la nube – Nothing is sold under the CenturyLink name today.
- Domains and site builder – Gone with the Marketplace.
We read the residential and small business pages on centurylink.com in a live browser. la palabra “hospedaje” doesn’t appear on either. Visit centurylink.com/business and you’re redirected straight to lumen.com.
What CenturyLink Actually Sells Now
Tres cosas: Internet, home phone, and TV. Eso es. The small business section adds business internet and business phone, nada más.
One page on centurylink.com does say “Servicios de hospedaje”, under the wholesale section. Read it and it describes carrier colocation (renting rack space in a data center so you can plug your own equipment in). The listed items are entrance facilities, conexiones cruzadas, and cabinet space for telecom carriers. That’s data center plumbing sold to other phone companies. You can’t put a WordPress site on it.
Lumen Managed Hosting
Lumen still lists a managed hosting service for enterprises. It’s contact-sales only: un número de teléfono, y nada más. No published prices. No plan tiers. No SLA figures (Acuerdo de Nivel de Servicio, un compromiso contractual de tiempo de actividad). No list of data center locations.
Here’s a detail worth noting. That page advertises the facilities as “SAS 70 II certified”. SAS 70 was an auditing standard withdrawn in June 2011 and replaced by SSAE 16. SSAE 16 has since been superseded too, by SOC reports. So Lumen is selling 2026 infrastructure with a badge that stopped existing fifteen years ago. How long has nobody read that page?
Ubicaciones del centro de datos
CenturyLink sold its data center and colocation business to Cyxtera in 2017. Lumen kept the network and its central offices, but the retail colocation estate went with that sale. The practical upshot for a hosting buyer: there’s no CenturyLink data center a small business can rent space in.
Expectativas de desempeño
No independent benchmark data exists for CenturyLink web hosting. There’s no product left to benchmark. The hosting review platforms that still carry a CenturyLink listing show an expert write-up of an enterprise managed service plus a handful of user reviews. The newest of those user reviews is from September 2019.
Experiencia del cliente
The review picture is one of the worst we’ve documented. Across three independent platforms the pattern is consistent, and the volume is large enough that it isn’t a sampling accident.
One review platform shows 1.1/5 desde 1,961 comentarios. The distribution is brutal: 1,881 una estrella, 35 dos estrellas, 11 tres estrellas, 8 cuatro estrellas, y 26 cinco estrellas. Eso es 95.9% una estrella. A second platform shows 1.0/5 desde 5,538 comentarios, actualizado 25 julio 2026, con 4,762 of them one-star. Our own database of 1,529 CenturyLink reviews averages 1.1/5. A hosting-focused platform rates it 1.6/5 and ranks it 6,941st out of 7,012 compañías.
Note what these are measuring. Almost all of it is internet service, no hospedar. The hosting-specific corpus is 13 reviews and the newest one is from September 2019.
Lo que los clientes elogian
Positive reviews exist, and they cluster tightly.
Individual technicians get named and thanked. The recurring pattern in five-star reviews is a specific installer who showed up, did the job properly, and cleaned up afterwards. The field workforce earns goodwill that the company’s systems then spend.
Price stability is the other theme. CenturyLink and its fiber brand marketed a rate that doesn’t climb after twelve months, which is unusual in US broadband. Customers who dodged the billing problems tend to stay a long time and say so.
Speed satisfies people who get fiber. Where fiber is available, reviews about the connection run noticeably warmer than reviews about the company.
Quejas comunes
Billing dominates. Incorrect charges, charges after cancellation, disputes that drag on for months. It’s the single largest theme on both major platforms, and it isn’t new. A securities class action accused the company of misquoting prices and overbilling customers, a practice known as cramming. It settled for USD 55 millón, approved by the court in July 2021, covering conduct from 2013 a 2017.
Outage duration is the second theme. Reviewers describe faults that take weeks rather than hours, with appointments booked and then cancelled. Uno 2026 review describes being told restoration would take until November after a February failure.
Support is the third. The word customers use most often is “outsourced”, followed by transfers between departments that end where they started.
One more data point sharpens the picture. A business bureau profile gives CenturyLink an A- clasificación, then carries two active alerts against it. One is for a pattern of complaints, one for government actions. The profile logs 3,401 complaints in three years, 827 closed in the last twelve months. An A- sitting on top of that volume tells you something about the grade.
Comentarios de la comunidad (Reddit & El)
The dedicated CenturyLink subreddit draws about 8,300 weekly visitors. Nobody there discusses CenturyLink as a web host. What they discuss is trying to host something on a CenturyLink line, which is a different problem and a more useful one for our readers.
Static IP addresses are a running battle. A static IP is an address that doesn’t change, which anything you host needs. Threads about getting one go back six years. A September 2025 post titled “Taking Away Grandfathered Static IPs” drew 47 comentarios. Getting a static IP is described as a multi-call ordeal, and keeping one is no longer safe to assume.
Port forwarding is the sharper warning. That’s the setting that lets traffic from the internet reach a machine inside your home network. One customer’s self-hosted web server stopped working after a forced equipment swap. The top replies were blunt: the supplied hardware blocks port forwarding. The only reliable fix is transparent bridge mode with your own router. Another commenter added that settings on the supplied gear “sometimes change themselves without any notification, taking you back to square one.”
Network changes are causing real disruption. Threads from November 2025 describe a regional switchover that killed service outright, one of them running to 220 comentarios. un junio 2026 post reports service cancelled on 30 julio 2026 because of network changes in the area. Esta semana, customers are posting notices that their phone line stops on or about 24 agosto 2026.
And there’s confusion about who owns what. A thread posted on 3 febrero 2026, titled simply “AT&T? Qué!?”, captures customers discovering the day after the deal closed that their provider had changed hands.
Calidad de soporte
Support channels are phone, charla, and an online support centre. There’s no published response-time commitment for consumer service.
One measurable signal stands out. The company’s profile on the largest review platform is unclaimed. Al otro lado de 94 negative reviews in the recent window, the reply rate is zero. Nobody from CenturyLink is answering there at all.
When to Use CenturyLink
There are situations where CenturyLink makes sense. Web hosting isn’t one of them.
Ideal para
Households with few broadband options: In parts of the US, CenturyLink is the only wired provider at the address. A 1.1-rated connection beats no connection, and reviewers in rural areas say exactly that.
People who hate contracts: The standard internet plans carry no annual contract and no cancellation fee. That’s a real advantage over cable competitors that lock you in for two years.
Small businesses that just need a line: Want business internet with free installation and WiFi hardware included, with your website hosted elsewhere? The USD 75/mo fiber plan is a reasonable connectivity buy.
Lo agradecerás si
- You want a rate that doesn’t jump after a promo year, because the fiber product is marketed on price stability
- You value symmetric upload speed, because fiber upload matches download
- You’re willing to supply your own router, because that solves several problems the supplied hardware creates
When NOT to Use CenturyLink
This section is short and firm. CenturyLink isn’t right for you if:
Mira en otra parte si
You need web hosting of any kind: There is no product to buy. Not shared, No VPS, not managed WordPress. Start with a real host instead. Nuestro Comparación de alojamiento web en EE. UU. covers providers that actually sell hosting to small customers.
Self-hosting from your home connection is the plan: The supplied equipment blocks port forwarding by default. Static IPs are hard to get, and grandfathered ones are being withdrawn. Forced swaps have broken working setups. Bridge mode and your own router fix all of it. You shouldn’t have to.
Email you control matters to you: CenturyLink’s own email domain was decommissioned on 27 febrero 2026 and users were moved to a new one. Anyone still using the old server settings in a mail client lost access. That’s what tying business email to an ISP domain buys you. Nuestro guía de alojamiento de correo electrónico covers providers where you own the domain.
Banderas rojas para su situación
- You need a written uptime guarantee: the residential standard terms contain no uptime figure, no guarantee, and no money-back language at all. Service is provided “tal cual”, and the terms state plainly that CenturyLink “does not promise uninterrupted or error-free service”. The Business Fiber page meanwhile markets a “99.9% de confianza” red.
- You want to escalate a dispute in court: the terms include mandatory arbitration.
- You’re on copper: the FCC removed the copper-retirement approval process on 26 marzo 2026, and carriers can now shut copper down with as little as 90 dias’ notice to residential customers. Customers are already posting shutoff notices.

CenturyLink Plans and Pricing
⚠️ Status Warning: You cannot buy CenturyLink web hosting at any price. The order pages return nothing. Any site quoting you “CenturyLink hosting from USD 9.99/mo” is republishing a price list that went offline in 2022. If you’re mid-purchase somewhere based on that figure, detener.
What the Hosting Used to Cost
We recovered the last archived version of the pricing page, captured 25 junio 2022. Tres niveles, all Linux:
- Essential – USD 9.99/mo per website: 50disco GB, 20 Usuarios de FTP (FTP is the protocol for uploading files to a server), 3-retención de copia de seguridad diaria, one MySQL database capped at 200MB, one year of domain registration.
Look at that last line again. WordPress support was locked to the USD 100/mo tier. That’s a 10x jump from the entry plan just to run the most common website software there is. The cheap tiers gave you a single 200MB database and a proprietary site builder. Even when this product was alive, it was poor value.
The page claimed a 99.9% uptime SLA and free 24×7 apoyo.
Current Internet Pricing
Verified live on 27 julio 2026:
- Simply Unlimited Internet: USD 55/mes (residential and small business)
- Fiber Internet / Business Fiber: USD 75/mes, disponibilidad limitada
Business Fiber includes free installation, listed at a USD 129 valor, plus WiFi equipment at no monthly charge and no annual contract.
Costos ocultos a tener en cuenta
- CTL Fee: up to USD 1.50/mo per line, on top of the advertised rate
- Taxes and surcharges: extra, not included in the headline price
- Paperless billing: required to get the advertised rate
- Early termination fees: apply on term plans, per the standard terms
- Broadcast and sports fees: USD 2.49/mo each on TV service
Veredicto de precios
There’s no renewal shock here for a simple reason: there’s no renewal, because there’s no product. On the internet side, CenturyLink’s headline rate is honest by industry standards, and no-contract billing is a genuine plus. But the CTL fee and the paperless-billing requirement mean the number on your card is never the number on the page.
- UPC –
- RAM 0 B
- Ancho de banda ilimitado
CenturyLink Transparency Score
We assess how upfront CenturyLink is with important information:
- Información de la empresa: Good – Ownership is traceable and the parent company files publicly. But the relationship between CenturyLink, Lúmenes, and the fiber business now owned by AT&T is not explained anywhere a customer would look, and the subreddit shows people finding out by accident.
- Transparencia de precios: Good – Headline internet rates are shown clearly with no promo-then-jump structure. The CTL fee and paperless-billing requirement are disclosed, in small print under the price.
- Documentación técnica: Limited – No published SLA for consumer service. The enterprise hosting page cites a certification standard withdrawn in 2011. No data center list.
- Condiciones & Políticas: Limited – The residential standard terms PDF still linked from the site carries an internal date stamp of July 2014. There is no refund policy in it, and third-party sources contradict each other on whether a 30-day guarantee exists. We could not verify one.
- Product Status: Poor – A discontinued hosting product was left to rot rather than being marked discontinued. No notice, no redirect, no migration page. The subdomain simply stopped answering.
Transparencia general: Por debajo del promedio. CenturyLink is honest about the price of the thing it currently sells and silent about everything it used to sell.
Alternatives to CenturyLink
If you arrived here looking for CenturyLink hosting, these fill the gap:
For Small Business Hosting: HostPapa or InMotion Hosting
Both target the same small business customer CenturyLink’s old Essential plan aimed at, with real support and current software. Aparecen en nuestro USA hosting roundup with US data centers.
Para alojamiento compartido económico: Hostinger or Stablepoint
CenturyLink’s old entry plan was USD 9.99/mo for 50GB and a single 200MB database. You can beat that comfortably today. Nuestro comparación de alojamiento compartido covers entry and renewal pricing for both, and flags which ones renew gently.
For Enterprise Managed Infrastructure: A real cloud provider
If you were considering Lumen’s managed hosting, compare it against providers that publish prices and SLAs before you take a sales call. Nuestro guía de alojamiento en la nube is a starting point, y nuestro comparación de servidores dedicados covers the single-tenant option.
CenturyLink is a telecom company with a 1.1/5 rating and no web hosting product. As a host, it’s not a poor choice; it’s not a choice at all.
La línea de fondo
Con 1.1/5 a través de 1,961 reviews on one platform and 1.0/5 a través de 5,538 on another, CenturyLink delivers connectivity where alternatives are thin and very little else. Its hosting business ended quietly around mid-2022 and was never announced. If you’re evaluating it as an internet provider in an area with no competitor, it’s defensible. If you’re evaluating it as a host, close the tab.
For genuine options, Vea nuestro Comparación de alojamiento web en EE. UU., where the providers listed still sell the product.
Preguntas frecuentes
Does CenturyLink still offer web hosting?
No. The CenturyLink Marketplace that sold hosting is offline. We tested the address on 27 julio 2026 and the server refuses connections. The last archived copy of the pricing page dates from June 2022. Any site quoting current CenturyLink hosting prices is republishing old data.
What did CenturyLink hosting cost before it shut down?
Tres planes. Essential was USD 9.99/mo per website with 50GB. Advanced was USD 14.99/mo with 100GB. Enterprise was USD 100.00/mo with 200GB. WordPress support was only included on the USD 100 nivel, which made it poor value even then.
¿De qué se quejan más los clientes??
Facturación, por un amplio margen. Incorrect charges and charges after cancellation dominate both major review platforms. Second is outage duration, with faults described in weeks not hours. Third is support quality. A billing-practices class action was settled for USD 55 millones en 2021.
Can I host a website on my CenturyLink internet connection?
Técnicamente si, practically it’s awkward. Community reports say the supplied equipment blocks port forwarding, and the workaround is transparent bridge mode with your own router. Static IPs are hard to obtain and grandfathered ones have been withdrawn. For anything customer-facing, use a real host.
Is CenturyLink the same as Quantum Fiber or AT&T now?
En parte. En 2 febrero 2026, AT&T completed a USD 5.75 billion purchase of the consumer fiber business, including Quantum Fiber, across eleven states. Lumen kept the copper-based consumer services, the backbone network, and enterprise customers. So depending on your address and connection type, your provider may have changed hands this year.
Does CenturyLink offer a money-back guarantee?
We couldn’t verify one. The residential standard terms linked from the site contain no refund or guarantee language at all. That document carries an internal date stamp from July 2014. Third-party sources disagree with each other. Cancelling means paying pro-rated charges plus any early termination fee on a term plan.
