Most budget hosts hook you with a low price and double it at renewal. Z.com does the opposite. Its checkout prints “Renews at USD 1.91/mo” next to a Starter plan you buy at USD 3.98/mo. Eso no es un error tipográfico, and we checked it at every billing term.
This review draws on the live checkout data, the full Terms and Conditions and three review platforms. It also uses the few Reddit threads that mention Z.com at all. A diferencia de las reseñas con muchos afiliados, we read the contract and tell you where it disagrees with the sales page. We haven’t tested Z.com servers ourselves, so every performance claim here is attributed to someone who did.
Evaluación general: Z.com scores about 4.5/5 aproximadamente 428 comentarios. Eso es 4.6 en Trustpilot de 286, 4.7 on HostAdvice from 87, y 8/10 on WHTOP from 55. Strengths are flat renewal pricing and real parent-company infrastructure. The problems are downtime reports and a contract promising far less than the marketing does. Best suited for beginners in Southeast Asia on a long commitment.
One dated change matters before you read older reviews. Z.com WebHosting in Japan shut down at 23:59 en 30 junio 2024, after running since October 2015. GMO moved those customers to its Onamae.com Rental Server brand. So any review calling Z.com GMO’s Japanese shared hosting product describes something that no longer exists.

Características y servicios
Z.com is the international brand of GMO Internet, Cª, the Tokyo company that started its internet business in 1995. The hosting side is narrow by design. No hay VPS (un servidor privado virtual, where you rent a whole machine and control it yourself), no dedicated servers and no cloud console.
Tipos de hosting ofrecidos
- Plan Gratis – 500 MB de almacenamiento, un sitio web, sin correo electrónico, renewed every three months at no cost
- Standard Performance shared hosting – three tiers from 3 GB a 50 GB, todo en cPanel (el panel de control de hosting estándar)
- High Performance hosting – the same product with reserved RAM and vCPUs (shares of a processor core), 2 GB a 16 GB
- WordPress administrado – three tiers with the WP Squared control panel and Extendify AI site builder
- WHM Reseller hosting – for reselling hosting to your own clients
- Domains and email – 580+ extensiones de dominio, plus Titan Business Email and Google Workspace
Características clave Los clientes destacan
Three things come up on every platform.
- An unrestricted cPanel – budget hosts often strip features out of it. HostAdvice’s reviewer noted that Z.com doesn’t.
- Free SSL that covers subdomains – SSL is the certificate that turns a site into HTTPS. Un octubre 2025 reviewer praised that it covers any subdomain you create.
- Imunify360 and JetBackup – a commercial malware scanner and firewall, plus a restore tool. Both are paid add-ons at many competitors.
Ubicaciones del centro de datos
Here’s the first real gap. Z.com never states where your site will physically sit. No plan page names a data center, and nor does the comparison table.
What we could verify: DNS puts the storefront on GMO’s own Bangkok network and the control panel in Tokyo. Both sit on autonomous system numbers registered to GMO companies, and that number identifies who owns a network. Aggregators list Singapore, while Z.com’s Philippine business page cites Japanese infrastructure.
So which is it? Nobody outside the company can say, and it matters for latency, the delay between a visitor’s browser and your server. For readers in Manila or Bangkok, any of those is fine. For Europe or the Americas, you’re buying blind. Nuestro Guía de alojamiento en Filipinas covers hosts that publish locations.
Expectativas de desempeño
No independent benchmark data exists for Z.com. We looked, and found no third-party speed or uptime test worth citing.

The closest thing is HostAdvice’s reviewer, who scored performance 8.2 fuera de 10 and found the test site “showed decent stability but slower-than-ideal server response.” Reliability is also the lowest of that platform’s five user sub-scores, a 4.1 contra 4.8 for features.
Experiencia del cliente
Al otro lado de 286 Opiniones de Trustpilot, Z.com holds 4.6 con 82.5% rated five stars. The distribution repays a closer look. Ten and a half percent are one-star, making that the second-largest bucket, while four, three and two stars together account for under 7%.
That shape tells you something. People either have a smooth time or a bad one, con poco término medio.
Lo que los clientes elogian
Support responsiveness dominates. Trustpilot’s own summary describes staff as “profesional, servicial, and very responsive,” matching what individual reviewers write. HostAdvice users score support at 4.5.
Value for money is second. A Philippine agency user wrote in October 2025 that Starter “has everything you need yet the cost is so affordable.”
Ease of setup is third. Varios 2025 reviewers mention that registration, payment and cPanel access all worked without friction. Para un primer sitio web, that counts.
Quejas comunes
Downtime is the serious one. Three separate one-star reviews landed within 48 hours on 27 y 28 octubre 2024, all from the Philippines, all describing an outage lasting days. One reads: “z.com is always down, downtime may reach up to 3 days to a week.”
It isn’t only history. UNA 30 Mayo 2026 reviewer wrote that after 11 days of hosting, “6 days the service are not reachable.”
Domain problems are the second cluster. Un octubre 2025 customer unlocked a domain, paid the transfer fee, then was told the transfer had failed without being told why. un mayo 2025 buyer paid for a premium domain and watched it sit at “pending registration.”
Tercero, several customers were flagged as fraud and asked for government ID to buy a domain. Reviewers from India in June 2025 and Denmark in August 2025 both describe it. It’s presumably anti-abuse screening, but it lands mid-purchase.
One older theme needs context. Reviewers in 2023 complained that renewal prices doubled without warning. That contradicts today’s checkout, so those complaints describe a pricing model Z.com has since changed.
Comentarios de la comunidad (Reddit y foros)
Here’s the most useful thing we found, and it’s an absence.
Z.com has almost no independent community footprint. Across eight years, r/SEO and r/webhosting produced three threads, one of them removed by moderators. los 2018 thread opens with “Can’t find any legit reviews about this.” That’s still true.
The r/Domains thread from December 2024 is the revealing one. Someone asked whether Z.com was a reliable registrar before moving a .com there. The most-upvoted reply was simply: “I’ve personally never heard anything about them.” The poster concluded, “I will go with sav or ionos.” Nobody in that thread defended Z.com.
One earlier commenter did leave a specific warning: “Their DNS system is confusing. I cant get Github to work for it.”
One caution about the review data itself. un noviembre 2025 HostAdvice review sits near the top of the page, clasificado 4.0. It calls Z.com “Owned by the Japanese e-commerce giant Z Holdings Corporation, which is part of the SoftBank Group.” It also says Z.com sells VPS and dedicated servers. Both are wrong. Z.com belongs to GMO Internet, and HostAdvice’s own FAQ on that page says VPS and dedicated aren’t available.
Calidad de soporte
El soporte se realiza a través del chat en vivo., tickets and a knowledge base. There’s no phone number on the English storefront, though the Vietnamese site publishes one.
los 24/7 claim needs a caveat. Z.com advertises “24/7/365” apoyo. But HostAdvice’s reviewer found “live chat availability is limited to office hours,” and WHTOP lists Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Ticket coverage may well be round the clock. Chat en vivo, on the evidence, no es.
Trustpilot adds one more figure. Of the negative reviews in its recent measurement window, Z.com replied to a third, taking an average of five days.
When to Use Z.com
Z.com fits a specific buyer well.
Ideal para
Beginners in Southeast Asia building a first site: the free tier lets you learn cPanel at no cost. The paid entry tiers are among the cheapest anywhere. Payment runs through GCash and DragonPay as well as cards and PayPal, which matters without an international card.
Anyone who hates renewal shock: you can compute your three-year cost today and it won’t move. For a small business budgeting ahead, that beats a slightly lower first-year rate elsewhere.
Agencies running many small client sites: Starter allows unlimited websites and email accounts on 10 GB. En USD 107.28 durante tres años, the per-site cost gets very low.
Lo agradecerás si
- You want a full cPanel rather than a simplified custom panel, because Z.com doesn’t strip features out
- You need business email on your own domain, since Titan and Google Workspace are both offered (nuestro guía de alojamiento de correo electrónico compares them)
- Your audience is in Japan, Singapur, Filipinas, Thailand or Vietnam
When NOT to Use Z.com
Ningún anfitrión se adapta a todos. Z.com is the wrong choice in four situations.
Mira en otra parte si
You need a VPS, root access or a dedicated server: Z.com sells none of them. los “Alto rendimiento” plans reserve RAM and CPU but remain shared cPanel accounts. To install your own software stack, mira a otro lado.
Your audience is outside Asia: Z.com won’t tell you which data center you’re on, and you can’t choose one. For a European or American audience, that’s a latency risk you can’t price.
Uptime is contractual for you: the marketing pages promise a “99.9% Service Level of Commitment.” An SLA, or service level agreement, is the clause that makes such a promise binding and pays you back when it’s missed. We searched the full Terms and Conditions, todas 135,031 caracteres, and the words “tiempo de actividad,” “LECHUGA” y “service level” appear nowhere. If your uptime figure has to survive a lawyer reading it, this contract won’t carry it.
Banderas rojas para su situación
- You want to pay monthly: monthly billing costs about four times the long-term rate, and the 30-day guarantee excludes monthly plans entirely. It covers only subscriptions of a year or more.
- You rely on the host’s backups: every plan card advertises “Free Automated Backups.” The contract says Z.com “does not warrant that it backs-up any Account or User Content” and disclaims liability for “ANY LOSS OF USER DATA.” Guarde sus propias copias.
- You need a legal remedy close to home: the agreement is governed by Japanese law, and disputes go to a court in Japan.
- La asistencia telefónica es esencial: there isn’t a number on the English site.

Z.com Plans and Pricing
Renewal note, y es bueno: Z.com doesn’t raise prices at renewal. On a 12-month Starter plan you pay USD 3.98/mo and the cart says it renews at USD 1.91/mo. Personal renews at USD 3.03/mo after you paid USD 4.98/mo. Every other plan renews at what you paid.

El problema está en otra parte. The advertised shared prices need a 36-month term that the site’s own pricing table never lists.
Rendimiento estándar (Hosting Compartido)
Soltero: advertised at USD 1.68/mo. Real cost is USD 60.48 para 36 meses, Dólar estadounidense 47.52 para 24, Dólar estadounidense 27.36 para 12. Eso es 3 GB and one website.
Inicio: advertised at USD 2.98/mo. Real cost is USD 107.28 para 36 meses, Dólar estadounidense 83.52 para 24, Dólar estadounidense 47.76 para 12. Eso es 10 GB, unlimited sites and email.
Personal: advertised at USD 3.98/mo. Real cost is USD 143.28 para 36 meses, Dólar estadounidense 107.52 para 24, Dólar estadounidense 59.76 para 12. Eso es 50 GB.
Now the arithmetic. Z.com’s comparison table lists three terms: 1, 12 y 24 meses. None produces the advertised price. En 24 meses, Single works out at USD 1.98/mo, Starter at USD 3.48/mo and Personal at USD 4.48/mo. The headline rates appear only at 36 meses, a term the table never lists. You find it inside the cart.
Alto rendimiento (Alojamiento empresarial)
Four tiers with guaranteed RAM and vCPU, facturado anualmente. Launch costs USD 130.00/year, Crecer USD 258.00, Scale USD 386.98 and Thrive USD 516.00. Launch gives you 2 GB de RAM, 2 vCPU y 100 GB. Thrive gives you 16 GB, 8 vCPU y 400 GB.
These renew flat, with no 36-month option. It’s still cPanel shared hosting with reserved resources, not a virtual private server, so there’s no root access.
WordPress administrado
Starter WP at USD 34.88/year, Growth WP at USD 59.88, Pro WP at USD 84.88. Here the advertised figures (Dólar estadounidense 2.91, Dólar estadounidense 4.99 y USD 7.07) match the 12-month rate exactly, so no digging is needed. All three renew flat.
One constraint the cards bury: every WordPress tier caps the database at 3 GB, including Pro. A busy store can hit that ceiling.

This line runs on Google Cloud rather than GMO’s own network, which Z.com states on the page. Compárelo con nuestro managed WordPress guide antes de comprometerse.
Costos ocultos a tener en cuenta
- Monthly billing costs roughly four times more. Single is USD 6.98/mo month-to-month against USD 1.68/mo on 36 meses. Launch is USD 32.00 contra USD 10.83.
- Your free domain isn’t free next year. A .com registers at USD 11.99 y se renueva en USD 17.99. Some extensions are worse: .biz registers at USD 5.68 y se renueva en USD 22.99.
- Cancel inside 30 days and the domain cost comes off your refund. Z.com says so plainly.
- Backups and SSL are included, and migration is free. Crédito donde corresponde.
Veredicto de precios
The prices are honest in the way that counts most. What you pay in year two is what you paid in year one, or less. eso es raro, and it’s worth real money.
The presentation is where it slips. UNA “12 MONTHS FREE!” badge sits on the 36-month term. Yet the same cart prices 24 months of Starter at USD 83.52 y 36 en USD 107.28. The extra year costs USD 23.76. Discounted, certainly. Gratis, No.

Z.com Transparency Score
How upfront is Z.com with the information a buyer needs?
- Información de la empresa: Excelente. GMO Internet ownership is stated on every page, and the legal entity and Tokyo address are in the terms. Nothing is hidden here.
- Transparencia de precios: Bueno, con un defecto real. Printing “Renews at USD 1.91/mo” in the checkout beats what most competitors manage. But the headline prices need a 36-month term the public table omits, so the cheapest price a shopper can see is never the price advertised.
- Documentación técnica: Limitado. No data center is named and no independent benchmarks exist. Limits like the 3 GB WordPress database cap sit in small print, not the comparison table.
- Términos y políticas: Pobre. Three marketing promises are absent from the contract or contradicted by it. Those are the 99.9% cifra de tiempo de actividad, las copias de seguridad automatizadas, and the refund, since the terms call fees “No reembolsable, in whole or in part.”
Transparencia general: Mezclado. Z.com is unusually honest about who owns it and what you’ll pay next year. It’s unusually vague about where your site runs, and about what it owes you if things break.
One smaller sign of care: the US storefront is a Philippine site with the currency label swapped. Its terms page is titled “Z.com PH Terms and Conditions.” Its competitor table quotes rivals at “$169/mo” y “$221/mo,” which are peso figures carrying a dollar sign. The payment line reads “Credit Crad / GCASH / DragonPay.”
Alternatives to Z.com
If Z.com doesn’t fit, these three address its specific gaps.
For Root Access and a Chosen Region: Vultr o DigitalOcean
Both hand you the whole machine, acceso root incluido. Vultr publishes 33 centros de datos, including Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore and Seoul, so you pick the city rather than guessing. You’ll manage more yourself, which is the trade.
For Domains Specifically: Dynadot, Porkbun or Namecheap
Most of Z.com’s one-star reviews concern domains rather than hosting: blocked transfers, fraud flags and pending registrations. These three are the registrars r/Domains members recommended in the very thread asking about moving a domain to Z.com. Buy the domain elsewhere and point it at whatever host you like.
For GMO Hosting That Isn’t Going Anywhere: Onamae.com Rental Server
This is where GMO sent its own Japanese Z.com WebHosting customers when it closed that product in June 2024. Misma empresa matriz, and it’s the product GMO chose to keep. The site is Japanese-language, which is the obvious limitation.
Para un campo más amplio, Vea nuestro Comparación de hosting compartido en Asia.
Z.com earns roughly 4.5/5 a través de 428 comentarios. It’s a better deal than its price suggests, provided you commit for three years and live in Asia.
La línea de fondo
The flat renewal pricing is real, and it’s rare. Buying Starter for three years at USD 107.28 and renewing at USD 1.91/mo beats almost every host advertising a lower opening rate. The full cPanel, the Imunify360 security and the free tier all add value.
What you give up is certainty. There’s no VPS path when you outgrow shared hosting, no published data center and no uptime commitment in the contract. Add a persistent stream of multi-day outage reports from Philippine customers. Weigh the 10.5% one-star share against the 82.5% five-star share.
Buy it for a small site in Southeast Asia at a price that won’t move. Skip it if you’ll need root access, a chosen region, or a guarantee you could enforce.
Preguntas frecuentes
Is Z.com good for beginners?
si, and the free plan is a real reason why. Usted obtiene 500 MB and a working cPanel at no cost, renewed every three months. Reviewers through 2025 describe registration and payment as painless. Support answers quickly during office hours.
Is Z.com worth the price?
On a three-year term, si. El inicio cuesta USD 107.28 para 36 months and renews at USD 1.91/mo, so year four is cheaper than year one. Monthly billing is another story: about four times the cost, and it voids the money-back guarantee.
¿De qué se quejan más los clientes??
Downtime leads. Three one-star reviews landed within 48 hours in October 2024, all describing outages of several days. un mayo 2026 customer reported six unreachable days out of eleven. Domain issues come second: blocked transfers out, fraud flags and ID requests. Slow ticket resolution is third.
Does Z.com offer VPS or dedicated servers?
No. Sus “Alto rendimiento” plans reserve RAM and vCPU for you, but they’re still shared cPanel accounts without root access. Any review claiming Z.com sells VPS or dedicated servers is wrong. Vea nuestro Philippines VPS guide en lugar.
Is Z.com good for WordPress?
It’s decent for small sites. The managed tiers add auto-updates, the WP Squared panel and the Extendify AI builder, and run on Google Cloud. Mira el 3 GB database limit, which applies even on the Pro tier. A busy store will outgrow it.
Does Z.com offer refunds?
Thirty days, with two conditions worth knowing. It covers only subscriptions of one year or more, so monthly plans get nothing. Z.com also deducts the cost of your free domain. Note that the main Terms describe fees as non-refundable, so the guarantee page is what you’d rely on.
