Surftown – 1967 Customer Reviews: Analysis (Sep 2026)

Short answer: you can’t buy Surftown. Type surftown.dk, surftown.se or surftown.com into a browser today and you land on Simply.com. The brand stopped selling hosting in 2020. Its customers were moved to a sister company, and the name now survives only as a registered trading name on a Danish company register entry.

That verdict comes from live checks run on 8 September 2026. We queried DNS and HTTP for all three Surftown domains and pulled both Trustpilot profiles in full. We read the Danish company register and worked back through web archive snapshots to 2014. Unlike the affiliate pages still ranking for this host, we won’t hand you a price list for a shop that closed six years ago. We also show what the successor charges on renewal, which is the number that matters if you follow that redirect.

Overall assessment: as a hosting choice in 2026, Surftown scores 2 out of 5. That score reflects one thing only: you cannot become a customer. The service itself was well liked. Its Danish Trustpilot profile still reads 4.7 out of 5 across 1,960 reviews and the Swedish one 4.9 across 810. Neither has received a new review in more than five years. Best suited for nobody today. If you are an old Surftown customer trying to work out what happened to your account, read on.

The closure has a date, which matters because most reviews of this host don’t carry one. Surftown’s Danish shop listed buyable hosting plans for the last time on 13 August 2020. Three days later the same page carried nothing but a notice reading “Surftown bliver til Simply.com”. The Swedish shop was still selling on 30 September 2020 and had the same notice up by 28 October 2020. Every “Surftown Review 2026” quoting a price is therefore describing a shop that shut six years ago.

Features and Services

Surftown was a Nordic web host founded in 2003 and run from Copenhagen. It sold shared hosting, domains and email to customers in Denmark and Sweden, with support delivered in both languages. Past tense is doing the work in that sentence. Here is what is actually there now.

What’s Left Today

We ran live checks on all three Surftown domains on 8 September 2026. The results aren’t ambiguous:

  • Every domain redirects. surftown.dk, surftown.se and surftown.com each return an HTTP 301 (a permanent redirect) to www.simply.com. The server header reads “Simply.com URL-forwarder”.
  • The www addresses are broken. www.surftown.dk and www.surftown.se return HTTP 502, a gateway error. Nobody has noticed, which tells you how much traffic they still get.
  • The name servers belong to the buyer. All three domains run on ns1 to ns4.simply.com, and the address they resolve to reverse-maps to dnsforward.simply.com.
  • No storefront, control panel or support desk carries the Surftown name. Every link that once led to one now leads to Simply.com.

Hosting Types Once Offered

For reference, this is what Surftown sold when it last took orders:

  • Shared hosting in three tiers, Starter, Advanced and Business Plus
  • Domain registration and domain parking
  • Email hosting with unlimited mailboxes on every tier
  • A drag-and-drop site builder, included at no extra cost
  • A paid “Service Desk” for DNS and SSL setup help

No VPS (a virtual private server, where you get your own slice of a machine). No dedicated servers. No reseller plans. It sold shared hosting and domains, and never pretended otherwise.

Who Owns the Name Now

This part is worth getting right, because several reviews get it wrong. Surftown wasn’t shut down by a failing owner. It was absorbed.

The Danish company register lists CVR number 29412006 as team.blue Denmark A/S. That entry carries 41 registered secondary trading names. Five are Surftown ones: SURFTOWN A/S, plus separate AFRICA, ASIA, EUROPE and INTERNATIONAL entries. Simply.com A/S sits on the same list, and Simply.com’s contact page gives its VAT number as DK29412006, the identical figure.

So Surftown and Simply.com are one legal entity wearing two names, and only one of those names still sells anything.

Performance Expectations

There is no honest performance data to report. Benchmarks measure live servers, and Surftown stopped serving sites under its own brand in 2020. Any 2026 review quoting a Surftown load time or uptime percentage did not measure it.

What we can check is the successor. Simply.com’s homepage advertises “99.99% oppetid”, Danish for uptime. Its terms of service contain no uptime figure at all. The only relevant clause says Simply.com “tilstræber” that systems are available 24 hours a day, which translates as “aims for”. There is no service level agreement (a contractual uptime promise with compensation attached) and no service credits.

Customer Experience

Surftown’s review record is large and completely frozen. The two Trustpilot profiles hold 2,770 reviews between them. Both are claimed by the company, and neither is collecting new ones.

The Danish profile shows a 4.7 TrustScore across 1,960 reviews, split 1,346 five-star, 247 four, 70 three, 118 two and 179 one-star. The Swedish profile reads 4.9 across 810, split 681 five-star, 88 four, 18 three, 11 two and 12 one-star. Here’s the number that matters: the newest Danish review dates from 19 June 2020, and the newest Swedish one from 4 February 2021. Both profiles report zero reviews in the past twelve months.

What Customers Praised

Support was the theme, and it wasn’t close. The recurring words in the five-star reviews are “hurtig” and “snabb”, fast. Reviewers describe getting a live chat answer in minutes and the problem solved in the same conversation.

Native-language service came up constantly. Danish customers reached Danish staff, Swedish customers reached Swedish staff, and support ran every day of the year. Staff were often named, as in “Filip är grym”. That’s the signature of a team small enough for customers to recognise individuals.

Common Complaints

Billing, and it’s not subtle. The largest theme across the one and two-star reviews is automatic renewal charged without a usable refund path. Several reviewers report being billed DKK 706 for a year they no longer wanted. One quotes the reply verbatim: Surftown did not refund amounts under DKK 2,000.

Contract lock-in follows the same pattern. A reviewer in January 2019 warned that missing the cancellation window bound you for another twelve months. One customer noted that a domain offered only “renew” or “delete”, never “cancel at period end”.

Suspension without warning is the third theme. Sites went offline for exceeding server load, for suspected compromise, or for a payment the customer said had cleared. The complaint was always the same: no notice, and no chance to fix it first.

The negative record is also old. We scanned the 200 most recent one and two-star Danish reviews. They span December 2010 to May 2019, peaking at 49 in 2011. Nothing newer exists, because nothing newer was written.

Community Feedback (Reddit & Forums)

Surftown’s Reddit footprint is close to nothing. Search the name and you get surf towns in Portugal, a half marathon and a wave pool in Munich. Two hosting-related threads exist. One, in r/divi from October 2018, is a bare link with zero comments.

The other is worth quoting. On 31 January 2020 a poster in r/Denmark described what the migration did to their account. They had run several domains on one Surftown plan, each with full email. After the takeover, they wrote, UnoEuro “uden varsel konverterede de hvert af mine domæner til eget webhotel og opkrævede for det”. Without warning, it split each domain into its own hosting account and billed for each one. The new platform couldn’t run mail for several domains on a single plan, so they left before renewal.

Eleven people replied. Every one suggested a different host or a separate email provider. Nobody defended the migration. It’s the most candid public account of the transition we found, and it dates the pain to January 2020, eighteen months after the move began.

Support Quality

Here’s the caveat almost nobody applies to that 4.7. Trustpilot records how each review was prompted, and the Danish profile splits sharply along that line.

Of the 200 most recent Danish reviews, 163 arrived through a company review link and 37 came from people who went to Trustpilot unprompted. The invited group averages 4.93 out of 5, with 152 five-star ratings and no one-star ratings at all. The unprompted group averages 3.14, with 10 of its 37 at one star. That’s a gap of 1.79 points, same company, same months.

Neither group is fake. They sample different moments. A review link goes out after a solved ticket, which catches the company on a good day. People find Trustpilot on their own when they’ve just been charged for something they didn’t want. The 4.7 is real, and so is the billing anger underneath it.

When to Use Surftown

There is no scenario in which you should buy Surftown hosting in 2026, because no such purchase exists. This section is normally where a review lists ideal customers. Instead, here is who this page is actually useful to.

Useful If

You’re a former Surftown customer wondering where your account went: it’s at Simply.com. Log in there rather than at any Surftown address. Your service was moved, not cancelled, and paid periods were carried across at the time of the migration.

You found a “Surftown Review 2026” page with prices on it: those prices are copied from an archive or invented. Check the redirect yourself, it takes one browser tab.

You’re comparing Nordic hosts and Surftown made your shortlist: remove it, then check whether the rest of that shortlist is independent. In Denmark, that’s a real question, and the next section answers it.

When NOT to Use Surftown

Every reason, but some are worth spelling out because they apply to the successor too.

Look Elsewhere If

You need a provider that exists: the storefront is gone and the www hosts return errors. There is no sales or support channel under this name, and nothing can be ordered.

Your budget has to survive year two: follow the redirect and you meet a renewal ladder running from 7x to 26.3x. It’s disclosed on the plan cards, but only if you look past the large number to the small one.

Phone support matters to you: Surftown’s Business Plus tier included it. On Simply.com it’s absent from the two cheapest tiers and starts at Pro Suite, EUR 252/yr on renewal. Hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 15:30, closed at weekends. Surftown advertised support every day of the year.

You want a contractual uptime promise: the successor’s terms contain no uptime percentage and no compensation clause, despite the “99.99%” figure on its homepage.

Red Flags for Your Situation

  • You want to pay monthly: all subscriptions are invoiced twelve months in advance.
  • You want brand diversity in Denmark: Dandomain, ScanNet, Curanet, Simply.com, Wannafind, Meebox, Danhost, HostNordic and Surftown share one company register entry. Switching between them doesn’t change who holds your data.
  • You register domains with your host: if the company changes hands, a website is recoverable and a lost domain often isn’t. Split your registrar from your host.

Surftown Transparency Score

We assess how upfront Surftown and its current owner are about what happened:

  • Company Information: Good. Surftown’s final page named the owner outright and said the brand had become Simply.com. The Danish register confirms the chain in public and for free. You just have to know to look.
  • Pricing Transparency: Limited. Surftown left no record of its renewal rates. Simply.com does better than most by printing renewal prices on every plan card. Even so, the headline figure a shopper sees covers only twelve months of a subscription that auto-renews.
  • Technical Documentation: Good. The successor’s specification table is unusually detailed, listing CPU type, PHP versions, memory limits and thread counts per tier. Data centre locations are vague: “primarily in Denmark but also around Europe”, with no named sites.
  • Terms & Policies: Limited. A 14-day right of withdrawal is clearly stated, and domains are clearly excluded from it. The gap is uptime. A “99.99%” claim on the marketing pages has no counterpart anywhere in the contract.

Overall Transparency: Mixed. Nothing here is concealed, and the brand’s own closure notice was honest. But no announcement was made to the wider market, so aggregators and affiliate sites kept selling Surftown for years. One review platform now marks it “closed”. Another still ranks a “Surftown Review 2026” with a 4.3 score, a price range in US dollars and a working “Visit Surftown” button.

Alternatives to Surftown

If you arrived looking for cheap Nordic shared hosting, these three cover the gaps above.

For Keeping Your Existing Account: Simply.com

This is where Surftown went, so if you were a customer, your data is already here. The platform is capable: NVMe SSD storage (solid-state drives on a fast interface), AMD EPYC processors, daily backups and SSH on every tier. Go in knowing the renewal figure, not the headline one.

For a Price That Doesn’t Jump: Gigahost

The Danish host Gigahost sells one plan at DKK 29 per month, and has run since 2006. All your domains, mailboxes and databases fit on that single flat price. It’s the same DKK 29 Surftown charged for a one-site Starter plan in 2020, with no year-two increase attached. See how it compares in our cheap Denmark hosting guide.

For Swedish Support and a Real SLA: Oderland

Oderland has run from Sweden since 1998, serves more than 15,000 customers, and answers by phone, chat and email in Swedish. It publishes a measured 99.99% uptime figure for the past year and sells a separate service agreement for sites that need a contractual promise. Worth a look in our Sweden web hosting guide.

Conclusion

Surftown Review at HowToHosting.Guide

Copy this result

Surftown scores 2 out of 5 for one reason: it isn’t for sale. The Danish shop stopped selling in August 2020 and the Swedish one in October 2020. Every Surftown address has redirected to Simply.com ever since.

The Bottom Line

The 4.7 and 4.9 Trustpilot scores you’ll see quoted are accurate and useless. They measure a support team that answered chats quickly in 2018 and 2019, at a company that stopped taking customers in 2020. Nothing about them predicts what you’d get by clicking through today.

If you’re a former customer, log in at Simply.com and check your renewal date against the renewal price, not the promotional one. If you’re shopping fresh, cross Surftown off and pick a host that can still take your money. Were mailboxes what brought you here? Surftown’s unlimited-mailbox offer was its most-praised feature, and our email hosting guide covers the current options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Surftown still in business?

Not under that name. Surftown stopped selling hosting in 2020 and its domains now redirect to Simply.com. The name still exists as a registered trading name belonging to team.blue Denmark A/S, but there’s no product behind it.

What happened to Surftown?

It was bought by the Danish group that also owned UnoEuro, and customers were moved onto the UnoEuro platform starting in 2018. UnoEuro renamed itself Simply.com in April 2020. Surftown’s Danish shop closed in August 2020 and the Swedish one in October 2020.

Where did my Surftown account go?

To Simply.com. Log in there rather than at any surftown address. Paid periods were carried over during the migration, so you weren’t billed twice for the same time. Check which plan you ended up on, as the tier names changed completely.

Are Surftown’s 4.7 and 4.9 review scores trustworthy?

They’re real, but frozen. The last Danish review was posted in June 2020 and the last Swedish one in February 2021. There’s also a split worth knowing about. Reviews the company invited average 4.93, while reviews people wrote unprompted average 3.14.

Is Simply.com a good replacement for Surftown?

Technically it’s a step up, with faster hardware, daily backups and SSH on every plan. Commercially it’s a step down for small sites. The cheapest plan renews at 15.2 times its first-year price, and phone support isn’t available below the third tier.

Why do other sites still publish Surftown prices for 2026?

Because nobody re-checks. Hosts rarely announce a closure, so aggregators keep old pages alive and copy each other’s figures. One major review platform has correctly marked Surftown “closed”. Another still lists dollar prices and a “Visit Surftown” button that lands you on Simply.com instead.
