Trading since 2009, StableHost is one of the older independent-looking brands still selling cPanel hosting. Its About page puts the team at “roughly 15 people” and says the company is “privately owned”. That second claim is out of date, and we’ll come back to it.

Data Center Locations

Here the story gets muddy. The network page opens by saying “We offer six different locations”. Two sentences later it invites you to test “all three of our locations”. It then lists nine: Phoenix, Chicago, Amsterdam, Singapore, Stockholm, Valencia, Frankfurt, Vilnius and Turku. The shared hosting page says “Phoenix, Chicago and Amsterdam Datacenters”. The checkout dropdown offers twelve, including St. Louis and San Jose, which appear nowhere in the marketing. The status page lists Madrid rather than Valencia.

We ran a whois lookup on all nine IPs StableHost publishes there. A whois lookup is a public registry query showing who holds an IP address. None of the nine is registered to StableHost. Singapore and Frankfurt belong to UpCloud, Stockholm to ilait AB, Chicago and Amsterdam to Internap, Vilnius to UAB Interneto vizija, Turku to Euronic Oy, the Phoenix block to Legaco Networks B.V., and Valencia to ProfesionalHosting, a Spanish host under the same parent group.

The company has effectively said so itself. When a customer challenged a large 2024 invoice, the reply quoted publicly on Reddit read: “our service providers have significantly raised their prices towards us, which also is something we had to consider.”

Performance Expectations

No independent benchmark data was published in the last twelve months, so we used StableHost’s own incident log at status.stablehost.com. It is dated, first-party and unflattering. Critical incidents ran to one in 2023, none in 2024, four in 2025 and six in the first eight months of 2026. The 2026 list includes two St. Louis cluster outages, a client area failure, two servers going down and a domain renewal backlog.

Total incidents by year sit at 12, 13, 11 and 14. The volume is flat. The severity is not.

Customer Experience

Trustpilot puts StableHost at 4.8 out of 5 across 2,443 reviews. The distribution is 2,332 five-star (95.5%), 67 four-star, 4 three-star, 3 two-star and 37 one-star (1.5%). Its own website advertises 4.9, which is a small overstatement of a score that needs no help.

So is a 95.5% five-star rate believable? In this case, more than usual. StableHost is not collecting invited reviews and has never run an invitation campaign. Every one of the twenty most recent reviews is marked organic, meaning the customer went to Trustpilot unprompted. That’s the opposite of the usual pattern at this rating, where a 4.8 turns out to be a wall of solicited five-stars. Volume runs at 106 reviews in twelve months, so the corpus is live rather than frozen.

What Customers Praise

Support, almost to the exclusion of everything else. Reviewers name agents individually and repeatedly, a signal you only get when the same small team handles tickets for years. Recent titles include “Whenever I need support, Nandan always replies quickly” and “HELPING ME FOR 7+ YEARS”.

Longevity is the second theme. Many five-star reviews open by stating how long the writer has been a customer: a decade, twelve years, fourteen. That retention is real evidence the platform stays up.

Recovery is the third. Several reviewers describe support restoring a site or mailbox they thought was lost. “I thought my website was gone forever …” is a real review title from July 2026.

Price increases on existing accounts dominate. A customer of fourteen years wrote in May 2025 that StableHost “recently DOUBLED the price of my existing plan without notice”. Advance billing is second, and it is documented policy rather than a mistake. The terms reserve the right to bill 20 days before the due date. A June 2026 reviewer worked out the consequence, “they literally charge you two months in advance”, and cancelled over it.

Refunds are third. A March 2025 reviewer cancelled after two days, got no refund, and recovered the money through PayPal. The terms restrict the 45-day guarantee to first-time accounts, so a returning customer has no refund window at all.

Community Feedback (Reddit & Forums)

Reddit has less to say about this host every year. The last thread with StableHost in the title is from December 2024, and it is the most useful document in the whole corpus.

Titled “Significant price increase from Stablehost”, it explains the author paid USD 68.42 for Unlimited Pro from 2013 and USD 57 from 2020. The new invoice was USD 191.88. StableHost’s own reply, quoted in the thread: “Up until now you were paying half of the regular price for our Pro plan … we had not revised our pricing since 2020.”

Older threads are harsher. A June 2022 r/webhosting post reported multiple StableHost WordPress sites hacked with backdoor accounts added through cPanel, and drew 23 replies. LowEndTalk’s reaction to the Miss Group purchase, on 9 April 2018, ran to “From Stable to Miss, what a disaster”.

One more, from a single commenter in August 2025 rather than a pattern: a claim that StableHost challenges critical Trustpilot reviews as defamatory. We could not verify it, and Trustpilot shows no consumer alert on the profile.

Support Quality

Technical support is 24/7 by email and live chat. Sales and billing run 9am to 5pm Mountain Time. A phone number exists, listed under a PO Box with no stated hours. No reviewer we read describes resolving anything by phone.

One change worth flagging. A June 2026 reviewer wrote: “Please don’t switch to AI support, have at least one person.” They had spent an hour with a human agent undoing what the AI did the day before. Named humans are the most praised thing about this host, so that is the trend to watch.

Red Flags for Your Situation

• You rely on the host’s backups: plans advertise daily R1Soft backups. The terms then remove any account over 100,000 inodes from the backup system, an inode being one file. The same plans allow 150,000 to 500,000 files. On Pro you can hold 250,000 files legitimately and be silently unbacked from file 100,001.
• You run a mailbox-heavy site: plans sell unlimited mailboxes, and the acceptable use policy separately bans using a web hosting account “for E-mail hosting/E-mail archiving”.
• You want an enforceable uptime promise: the SLA (Service Level Agreement, the contractual uptime commitment) is 99.9%. Credit is “at the discretion of StableHost” and third-party monitoring reports are explicitly not accepted as evidence. Uptime is defined as what the operating system and the Apache web server report, on a platform marketed as LiteSpeed.
• You might dispute a charge: the chargeback fee is USD 150.

StableHost Plans and Pricing

All prices below were read from StableHost’s live checkout on 8 September 2026, in USD. It also bills in EUR and SEK.

⚠️ Renewal Warning: the homepage banner reads “Get 50% off (first year)”. In the checkout, that same code registers as a 50% One Time Discount. Pick 12-month billing and it halves year one. Pick monthly billing and it halves a single invoice. Starter at the advertised USD 6.35 becomes USD 12.71 in month two. That’s a 2.00x jump either way, just on very different timetables.

Shared Hosting

Mini: USD 1.58/mo first term, renews at USD 2.11/mo (1.34x). 5GB disk, 500GB traffic, 3 mailboxes, no database. Annual billing only.

Starter: USD 6.35/mo first term, renews at USD 12.71/mo (2.00x). One website, unlimited disk and bandwidth.

Pro: USD 10.06/mo first term, renews at USD 20.13/mo (2.00x). Unlimited websites. The cart confirms USD 120.77 today, then USD 241.55 every year after.

Platinum: USD 46.51/mo, no discount offered, so no renewal jump either. Fifty accounts per server instead of five hundred.

Prepaying saves nothing on shared plans. Starter costs USD 12.71/mo monthly, USD 12.72 quarterly, USD 12.74 semi-annually and USD 12.71 annually. Six-month billing is three cents a month worse than paying monthly.

VPS Hosting

Starting at: USD 12.18/mo advertised. The checkout tells a different story: USD 13.30/mo on monthly billing, and USD 12.18 only on a 12-month term (USD 146.15 up front). The advertised price never says a year is required.

The line runs from 1GB RAM at USD 13.30 to 16GB at USD 145.69, all unmanaged with no control panel. Managed support with cPanel is an add-on from USD 42.39/mo, which is 3.2 times the entry server itself.

Both VPS coupons the page advertises are broken. VPSCLOUD75OFF returns “The promotion code entered has expired”. VPSCLOUD20OFF validates but discounts USD 0.00 on monthly billing; it only pays out on the 12-month term, taking the first year to USD 116.92.

Dedicated Servers

Starting at: USD 145/mo for a 2-core Intel Pentium G3450, 4GB RAM and two 300GB SAS drives, SAS being enterprise spinning disks rather than SSDs. The G3450 launched on 1 May 2014.

Neither of the other two is fresher. Premium at USD 165 uses a Xeon E3-1240L v3 from Q2 2014, Ultimate at USD 245 a Xeon E5-2603 v3 from Q3 2014. Three 22nm parts from one year, all on spinning disks, on a page promising “state-of-the-art web hosting solutions”.

Reseller Hosting

Basic USD 11.65/mo for 20GB and 10 clients, Pro USD 23.31 for 40GB and 50 clients, Plus USD 34.97 for 60GB and 100 clients. No promotional pricing is offered, so these are the recurring rates.

Pricing Verdict

This host is honest about its renewal prices and evasive about its promo. Publishing a renewal table is genuinely rare and worth credit. Calling a one-time coupon “50% off (first year)” is not. That same banner read “50% off (first invoice)” in December 2023, so the wording got looser as the prices got higher.

• Company Information: Poor. The About page says “We’re privately owned”. StableHost was in fact bought by Sweden’s Miss Group, whose corporate finance adviser announced the deal on 5 March 2018. The words Miss Group appear nowhere on stablehost.com. Three places are given for the company: a PO Box in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the contact page, “We are based in Phoenix, Arizona” in the reseller FAQ, and Florida law and arbitration in the terms.
• Pricing Transparency: Good. A published renewal table is better than most of the market manages. It’s undercut twice: by a banner calling a one-time coupon a first-year discount, and by VPS pricing that shows the annual rate without saying a year is required.
• Technical Documentation: Limited. Server memory is stated as 32GB, 36GB and 96GB on different pages of the same site. Location counts run three, six, nine and twelve. The reseller page still advertises PHP 5.3 through 7.0, all long past end of life, plus Perl 5.8.8 from 2006. The network is “200Gbps” on the homepage while the plan table offers 2Gbit/s of DDoS protection.
• Terms & Policies: Limited. The 45-day guarantee is stated plainly. Two sentences later the same section says VPS servers have a 7-day guarantee and then says there are no refunds on VPS servers at all.

Overall Transparency: mixed, and consistently so. StableHost is straight about what things cost to renew, and evasive about who it is, where it runs and what it will honour.
