LWS promises a “99.99% minimum guaranteed” uptime on its homepage, its hosting page and its VPS page. Its contract doesn’t contain that number. That gap sums up this French host: cheap to start, generous on features, and vaguer on paper than in its ads. Our Average Score for LWS is 4.6, from 6,359 reviews examined.
For this review we read LWS’s plan pages, its order cart up to the basket, and the general and product terms behind them. We also pulled Trustpilot’s full star count and split its newest 200 reviews by who prompted them. On top of that, we pinged LWS’s Paris network from home internet lines in 10 countries and territories. Most pages ranking for “LWS review” quote the EUR 1.49 entry price and the 99.99% figure, then stop. They skip the part you pay for later. The renewal price changes with the term you pick, and the uptime promise has no remedy behind it.
Quick verdict: LWS is a good-value French host for small sites, with daily backups, French-speaking support seven days a week and servers in Paris. The main complaints are slow support replies, domain mix-ups and price rises at renewal. It suits beginners and small businesses whose visitors are in France, Belgium or Switzerland.

LWS’s terms dated 15 May 2024 deduct a domain’s renewal price from money-back refunds, a rule absent from its July 2020 terms. A review based on the 2020 version understates what cancelling costs.

Features and Services
What LWS Sells, and the Company Behind It
LWS (Ligne Web Services) is a French host and domain registrar that dates its brand to 1999. It sells shared hosting on Linux, Windows (ASP.NET) and cPanel, plus WordPress, WooCommerce and Node.js plans. Above that sit VPS, cloud and Private Cloud servers, email and online storage. Its site claims 680,000 hosted sites and more than 4,500 servers.
The company behind the brand is smaller than that history suggests. The French business registry lists Ligne Web Services (LWS) as registered on 13 June 2019, with its head office in Golbey in the Vosges. For 2024 it sits in the 10 to 19 employee band. Its parent, Groupe LWS, was registered in 2003 at the same Golbey address. LWS’s own legal page names Nicolas Depredurand as president.
The Tools Customers Actually Touch
Most buyers meet three things first. The control panel is LWS Panel, LWS’s own interface rather than cPanel, unless you buy a cPanel plan. Every shared plan includes a WordPress Manager with cloning, automatic updates and staging. Staging gives you a duplicate site to try changes on before visitors see them. SiteBuilder Pro, a drag-and-drop builder with about 200 templates and an AI generator, comes with the plans too.
Daily backups are a headline feature, and the basket calls them “offered for life”. The shared-hosting terms are narrower. Included backups cover up to 20 GB of data, and LWS gives no guarantee that a backup worked. If your data is bigger than 20 GB, keep your own copies.
The rest is standard for the price. You get a free domain for the first year, Let’s Encrypt SSL, a web application firewall and malware scanning. Redis and Memcached caching and PHP 5.6 to 8.4 are included too. Free migration is offered on every plan.
Equinix Paris, and Nowhere Else
LWS says it uses several French data centers, Equinix and Adista, “but mainly Equinix Paris”. It runs its own network, AS210403 (its registered block of internet addresses). A third site of its own holds only online storage and backups. There are no locations outside France.
That’s an advantage if your visitors are in France or nearby, and a cost if they aren’t. French data residency also matters for some public bodies and regulated businesses. LWS’s data center page says the facilities are certified ISO 27001 and HDS (France’s health-data hosting standard).
Performance Expectations
On 7 October 2026 we measured how fast LWS’s network answers from home and mobile internet lines. We used Globalping’s public probes in 10 countries and territories, sending 10 pings each to an LWS server in the Paris area. The table shows the average round trip.
| Probe location (internet provider) | Average round trip | Packet loss |
|---|---|---|
| Paris, France (Orange) | 7.6 ms | 0% |
| Marseille, France (Free) | 21.6 ms | 0% |
| Peer, Belgium (Proximus) | 25.0 ms | 0% |
| Zurich, Switzerland (Sunrise) | 26.5 ms | 10% |
| Montreal, Canada (Bell) | 92.6 ms | 0% |
| Chicago, USA (Comcast) | 117.8 ms | 0% |
| Cotonou, Benin (ISOCEL) | 120.3 ms | 0% |
| Saint-Pierre, Reunion (Orange) | 184.0 ms | 0% |
| Pointe-Noire, Congo (Congo Telecom) | 193.9 ms | 0% |
| Tokyo, Japan (KDDI) | 257.9 ms | 0% |
Two things stand out. Inside France, Belgium and Switzerland, the network answers in under 27 ms, which is as good as a Paris host gets. Many of the reviews we examined come from French-speaking Africa. There the trip took 120 to 194 ms, because every request crosses to Paris and back. We couldn’t test Morocco, Senegal or Cameroon: Globalping had no home-internet probes there that day.
These numbers measure network reach only. They don’t show how fast a page loads, how busy a shared server is, or how LWS’s caching performs. We found no independent benchmark of LWS hosting. On site speed, the review record is thin. Several 2025 and 2026 complaints describe 502, 503 and 524 errors and slow online shops on shared plans.
Customer Experience
On Trustpilot, LWS has a TrustScore of 4.5 from 6,566 reviews. Of those, 409 arrived during the past year. Most are glowing: 4,898 five-star reviews (74.6%) and 1,209 four-star (18.4%), against 215 one-star (3.3%). Only 200 reviews give three stars (3.0%) and 44 give two (0.7%). LWS’s own homepage still advertises 4.6 on 6,000 reviews.

Five-star reviews dominate, and one-star reviews outnumber two-star ones. Source: Trustpilot, star counts read 7 October 2026.
Who asks for the review matters a great deal here. Of the newest 200 Trustpilot reviews, from 13 March to 7 October 2026, LWS invited 172 through a review link. Those averaged 4.65. The other 28 were written by customers nobody asked, and they averaged 3.36. Eight of those 28 gave one star. Nobody here is faking anything. An invitation usually lands right after a fixed problem, whereas people write on their own mostly when they’re angry.
Why Happy Customers Stay
We ran a keyword count on the 100 newest five-star reviews. Speed of response came up in 44 of them, usually meaning a ticket answered fast rather than a fast website. The support staff were named or thanked in 34, and price or value in 24. Nineteen called the service simple or easy to use, and nine came from customers who’ve stayed for years.
Where the Complaints Cluster
We read the 60 newest one- and two-star reviews, from February 2025 to October 2026. About 13 describe slow or unhelpful support: one reviewer waited more than five hours for a simple reply, another counted ten hours between answers. Roughly 12 involve domains, such as orders suspended after payment, transfers that took a site and its email offline, and DNS settings support got wrong. About 10 call the panel dated or confusing, especially for beginners.
Price rises appear in about nine. One blogger paid EUR 27 in the first year, then more than EUR 80, then over EUR 100. Around seven report downtime, slowness or data loss, including a site that went offline without warning. One former customer says marketing texts and emails kept coming after they cancelled.
LWS answers its critics. Every one- and two-star review in the newest 200 has a company reply.
Reddit and Forums: Almost Nothing
Reddit is close to silent on LWS. Searching on 7 October 2026 turned up no thread with a real first-hand verdict. In January 2026, a user comparing French hosts listed LWS next to o2switch, PlanetHoster and Ikoula, but the only reply discussed the other two. In 2024, a developer described LWS as a low-cost shared host and asked whether it could run a Node-based server-side setup. Two identical promotional posts in a small subreddit, six months apart, were marketing, and we ignored them.
Support: Phone on Weekdays, Chat All Week
LWS offers phone support on a standard-rate Paris number, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 19:00. Email, tickets and live chat run seven days a week. It advertises that its technicians “find you solutions in 20 minutes”. The complaints above suggest that holds for simple questions more than for incidents.
When to Use LWS
LWS works best when your audience is French-speaking and in Europe, and you want help in French.
First-time site owners in France. Perso at EUR 1.49 a month bundles a domain, email, backups and a site builder. The WordPress Manager handles updates, and support answers in French on weekends.
Small businesses that can prepay. Commit a shop or practice for two to four years and you get LWS’s lowest renewals. Starter hosts 10 sites with 25 mailboxes, which covers a business with a couple of side projects.
Organisations that need French data residency. Everything sits in French data centers, mainly Equinix Paris. For public bodies, associations or health-adjacent projects, that simplifies GDPR questions.
LWS meets these needs well:
- Low latency in France, Belgium and Switzerland (under 27 ms in our test)
- Windows ASP.NET, cPanel and Node.js hosting from the same provider
- Flat monthly VPS prices on the S, L and XL plans
- Domain, hosting and email from one French registrar
When NOT to Use LWS
The weak spots show up in the contract and outside Europe, not on the sales page.
You need uptime you can claim against. The 99.99% figure appears in the marketing only. The general terms say LWS has only a duty of best efforts. Service credits apply only where product terms set a service level, and neither the shared nor the VPS terms do.
Your visitors are outside Europe. All hosting is in France. From Montreal the round trip was 92.6 ms, and from Tokyo 257.9 ms.
You want to cancel easily. The shared-hosting terms say an automatic renewal is cancelled by registered letter, received at least 15 days before the term ends. The money-back guarantee works once per customer, and the refund loses the domain at its renewal price.
You hate waiting for support. Slow replies are the most common theme in recent low-star reviews. Phone help stops at weekends.
For a written uptime commitment, Infomaniak’s managed cloud server is the better buy. For North American visitors, OVHcloud can place shared hosting in Canada.

LWS Plans and Pricing
In short: shared hosting starts at EUR 1.49 a month excluding VAT and renews at EUR 2.99 or EUR 3.99, depending on the term you prepay. VPS prices are flat, except one plan with a first-month teaser. Domains renew well above their first-year price. By French standards the entry price is low, and the renewals are moderate rather than extreme.
All prices below come from LWS’s order cart on 7 October 2026, excluding VAT, as the cart shows them. Plan cards also show the price including French VAT at 20%. Every shared plan needs at least one year upfront; there is no monthly option.
| Shared plan | Entry price | Term | Renews at | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perso | EUR 1.49/mo | 1 year | EUR 3.99/mo | 100 GB |
| Perso | EUR 1.49/mo | 2 or 4 years | EUR 2.99/mo | 100 GB |
| Starter | EUR 3.49/mo | 1 year | EUR 5.99/mo | 200 GB |
| Starter | EUR 3.49/mo | 2 or 3 years | EUR 4.99/mo | 200 GB |
| Performance | EUR 9.99/mo | 1 year | EUR 11.99/mo | 300 GB |
| Performance | EUR 8.99/mo | 2 years | EUR 10.19/mo | 300 GB |
| Performance | EUR 6.99/mo | 4 years | EUR 10.19/mo | 300 GB |

The longest prepaid term lowers the renewal on every plan, and on Performance it lowers the entry price too. Source: LWS order cart, read 7 October 2026.
Here’s the detail most reviews miss. The hosting page says the discount “applies to the first year only”. The cart says otherwise. On Perso, EUR 1.49 a month runs for the whole two or four years you prepay. The renewal rate after a long term is lower, too.

Look at the renewal line under each term: 3.99 after one year, 2.99 after two or four. LWS order cart, captured 7 October 2026.
Renewal warning: on a one-year Perso plan, you pay EUR 1.49 a month and then EUR 3.99, a 167.8% rise. Prepay two or four years and the renewal is EUR 2.99, about twice the entry price. Four years of Perso cost EUR 71.52 upfront that way, against EUR 161.52 if you start with one year and renew yearly.
Prepay warning: the Performance card advertises EUR 6.99 a month and “save 42%”, without naming a term. That price needs a four-year prepayment of EUR 335.52. On one year, the same plan costs EUR 9.99 a month.

The advertised EUR 6.99 appears only on the four-year row. LWS order cart, captured 7 October 2026.
VPS: Flat, Except the One Labelled Best-Seller
LWS’s VPS line runs on Intel Xeon cores with NVMe storage and a 250 Mbit/s connection. You choose a managed setup with ISPConfig or HestiaCP, or root access. Switching from managed to root is one-way: going back means reinstalling the server.
| VPS | Specs | Price | Renews at |
|---|---|---|---|
| VPS S | 2 vCore, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe | EUR 9.99/mo, monthly | EUR 9.99/mo |
| VPS M | 4 vCore, 8 GB RAM, 150 GB NVMe | EUR 4.99 first month | EUR 19.99/mo |
| VPS L | 6 vCore, 12 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe | EUR 29.99/mo, monthly | EUR 29.99/mo |
| VPS XL | 8 vCore, 16 GB RAM, 250 GB NVMe | EUR 49.99/mo, monthly | EUR 49.99/mo |
VPS M is the “best-seller” on the page, and its EUR 4.99 lasts one month. From month two it costs EUR 19.99, four times the headline. Paying a year or two upfront trims the S, L and XL plans by 3% to 8%. Free VPS backups last 30 days and cover up to 20 GB.
Costs Outside the Plan Price
The free domain is free for one year. After that, a .fr renews at EUR 8.99 a year and a .com at EUR 13.99, excluding VAT, on LWS’s own price list. The optional “Business Assistance” for VPS (priority support, unlimited backups and a four-hour repair commitment) costs EUR 14.00 a month at first, then EUR 35.00. We found no preselected add-ons in the shared-hosting basket.
Is LWS Good Value?
Is the low entry price a trap? Mostly, no. LWS’s own FAQ says renewals aren’t “multiplied by ten like at some hosts”, and the cart bears that out. Its worst shared renewal is 2.68 times the entry price, and Starter on a three-year term renews at 1.43 times. The catch is that the best deal is hidden behind the longest prepayment, and the plan cards don’t say so. It’s priced for French small businesses and hobbyists who will commit for two to four years.

LWS Transparency Score
Company Information: Limited. The website’s footer and legal page say “RCS Paris” and give a Paris address. The terms and the national registry put the head office in Golbey, registered in Épinal. The site also gives two different lists of network carriers.
Pricing Transparency: Good. The cart shows each term’s renewal price before you pay, which many hosts don’t. The plan cards are weaker: Performance hides its four-year condition, and the banner’s “first year only” contradicts the cart.
Technical Documentation: Limited. Plan specs, PHP versions and data center operators are published. But the main reliability claim, 99.99% uptime, has no figure, measurement method or credit behind it in the contract.
Terms and Policies: Good. The terms are long but downloadable and dated. They state the 20 GB backup cap, the registered-letter cancellation and the once-only refund plainly. Several of those terms are harsh, but you can find them.
Overall Transparency: Limited. LWS publishes more than most budget hosts, from renewal prices to dated terms. But its headline uptime promise and its own company details don’t survive a check against the paperwork.
Alternatives to LWS
Each of these three fixes one gap from the list above. One puts uptime in writing, one serves North America better, and one skips the teaser price.
For an Uptime Promise With Penalties: Infomaniak
Infomaniak‘s terms for its managed cloud server promise 99.99% uptime. That means at most five minutes of downtime a month, with penalties up to half the contract value. It’s the premium pick, from CHF 38.41 a month on the storefront we were served.
For Visitors in Canada: OVHcloud
OVHcloud lets you put its Perso shared plan in Beauharnois, Quebec, instead of France. It costs EUR 35.88 excluding VAT for the first year, then EUR 71.88. So its renewal doubles too.
For a Price Without a Teaser: o2switch
The Grow plan at o2switch costs EUR 84.00 a year before VAT, and the comparison page shows no discount on it. It runs in o2switch’s own French data centers. Pick it if you distrust introductory rates.
LWS earns its Average Score of 4.6 from 6,359 reviews examined. It’s a capable, low-cost French host whose cart is more honest than its banners. Buy it for a small French or Belgian site, and prepay two to four years to lock the lower renewal. Skip it if you need a contractual uptime promise, a server outside Europe or support that answers within the hour. In those cases, Infomaniak or OVHcloud is the better buy.
Before you order, read the renewal line under each term in the cart, and keep backups if your data passes 20 GB. To weigh it against hosts outside France, see our shared hosting comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is LWS a reliable host for a small business site in France?
For most small sites, yes. Its servers are in Paris and our test measured 7.6 ms from a Paris home line. The catch is that its 99.99% uptime promise isn’t in the contract.
How much does LWS cost after the first year?
Perso goes from EUR 1.49 to EUR 3.99 a month after a one-year term. If you prepay two or four years, EUR 1.49 lasts the whole term and renewal is EUR 2.99. Starter renews at EUR 4.99 or EUR 5.99.
What do unhappy LWS customers report?
Slow support replies come up most, followed by domain and DNS problems. Next are a panel beginners find confusing, and price rises at renewal.
LWS or o2switch: which is the better French host?
LWS is cheaper to start and sells more products, including Windows and VPS. o2switch’s Grow plan shows no introductory discount, so there is no teaser to expire. Both host in France.
Can LWS host a Node.js or Next.js app?
LWS sells a separate Node.js hosting product. Standard shared plans run PHP, and one 2025 reviewer couldn’t deploy a Next.js app there. Pick the Node.js plan or a VPS for that.
How does the LWS 30-day money-back guarantee work?
You request the refund in the client area within 30 days, and LWS pays within seven days. It works once per customer. Any domain is deducted at its renewal price, EUR 13.99 for a .com.
