AltusHost sells business hosting, not starter hosting. The product list is short, and every plan runs on hardware the company owns.

It’s also newer than it looks. On 12 January 2026 AltusHost replaced a website it had run for over a decade, launching a new dedicated server and VPS lineup at the same time. Reviews written before that date describe a different catalogue.

There’s no separate managed WordPress product. The WordPress Hosting page sells the same BIZ plans at the same prices, so don’t expect the staging tools a specialist WordPress host would include.

Data Center Locations

Five locations, all European: Amsterdam, Stockholm, Zurich, Sofia and Belgrade. VPS plans reach four of them. Reseller hosting is Netherlands only.

The network claim holds up. AltusHost operates AS51430 and is registered with RIPE as a Local Internet Registry. That means it holds its own blocks of IP addresses rather than renting them, and its servers answer from its own ALTUSHOST-NET range. That’s unusual for a host this size.

There is no presence outside Europe. If your audience sits in North America, Asia or Australia, every request crosses an ocean.

Performance Expectations

Independent numbers exist, but they’re thin. HostAdvice provisioned a BIZ Standard account and published results in June 2026: 93 percent on GTmetrix from Amsterdam, with a Largest Contentful Paint of 1.6 seconds. That metric tracks how long the biggest visible element takes to load. US-tested results were slower, which is what Europe-only infrastructure produces.

On LowEndTalk, AltusHost machines in Sofia, Zurich and the Netherlands appear repeatedly as speed-test endpoints, returning multi-gigabit throughput. That measures the network rather than the hosting, but it does back the connectivity claim.

Customer Experience

One finding shapes this whole section. AltusHost’s 4.8 rating rests on 109 reviews, and the newest was posted on 8 May 2023. Nothing has been added in 2024, 2025 or 2026. When our own page last covered this provider in February 2024, the count was already 109.

The distribution matters too. Of the 103 scored reviews we could read, 72 are perfect fives and 94 sit at 4.5 or above. Exactly three fall below 4.0, and all three are one-star. Nothing at all sits between 1.1 and 3.9. Nearly half the corpus, 46 reviews, was written in 2017 and 2018.

What Customers Praise

Support speed dominates. Reviewers describe response times as “extremely fast”, with updates arriving while an issue is still being worked. The theme runs across shared, VPS and dedicated customers alike.

Migration handling comes second. One dedicated-server customer moved several hundred websites off a host that wasn’t using cPanel and reported every issue resolved. Migration is free, and reviewers treat it as a real service.

Reliability is third. Long-term customers report years without unplanned downtime, and several call the pricing fair for the quality.

Common Complaints

Cost is the most frequent reservation, even inside positive reviews. The usual phrasing is that cheaper options exist, but you get what you pay for.

The client portal is second. A VPS customer in 2022 said routine tasks kept requiring a support ticket. Self-service should have covered them, and that dragged their score down.

Phone support is third. The same reviewer called its absence a real problem: you wait on an email thread where a call would settle things in a minute. AltusHost publishes a phone number, but the contact page routes technical issues to tickets.

The three one-star reviews cluster around billing and suspension. In one, a customer’s VPS stayed suspended for over two days because of a PayPal problem after the invoice had been paid.

Here the picture turns unusual. AltusHost has almost no community footprint at all.

An exact-phrase search on Reddit returns roughly six comments in the platform’s entire history, and most are incidental. The single real recommendation sits in an r/hetzner thread about price rises, where a user suggested AltusHost for “good network quality”. No horror stories, no warnings, and not much praise either.

LowEndTalk tells the same story from another angle. AltusHost appears often in benchmark threads through 2024 and 2025, but always as a speed-test endpoint someone else is measuring against. Never as a host under discussion.

On WebHostingTalk, AltusHost has been a corporate member since April 2008. Independent review threads there run from 2009 to 2022. The older ones record real problems: a shared-server compromise in 2009, slow ticket responses, and a DDoS incident with data loss. Their most recent activity there, in March 2026, is their own promotional post.

What should you take from this? A quiet record is not a bad record. It does mean you can’t verify current service quality the way you can with a host people argue about weekly. AltusHost also claimed its profile on the largest public review platform in October 2021 and has zero reviews there five years on.

Support Quality

Support runs on tickets and live chat around the clock, with a phone number for business enquiries. The one recent independent data point is encouraging: that June 2026 test logged a 13-minute ticket reply from a named technical staff member.

The knowledge base is patchier. The same test found categories with no articles in them at all, including SSL certificates.

One caveat sits in the VPS order form rather than the marketing copy. AltusHost states that for servers without a control panel it provides “Limited, Best-Effort support only”. Buy a bare VPS and the 24/7 promise narrows considerably.

AltusHost fits a specific buyer well.

Ideal For

European businesses that need data inside the EU: Five locations, plus an imprint carrying a Dutch company number and VAT registration. There’s a GDPR page and a data processing agreement. If compliance asks who holds your data and where, every answer is on the site.

Buyers who hate renewal surprises: There’s no promotional rate to expire. Sign up at EUR 11.95 and that’s the rate you renew at, subject only to general list-price changes.

Anyone whose site earns money: The published SLA gives service credits below 99.9 percent monthly uptime, from 10 percent up to a full month’s fee. Credits rather than cash, which is standard, but at least the tiers are written down.

You’ll Appreciate It If

• You want backups you don’t pay extra for, because daily backups come with every shared plan at no cost
• You need European payment options, because iDEAL, Belfius, KBC/CBC and EPS all work at checkout
• You’re moving from another host, because migration is free and reviewers rate it well

You’re price-sensitive: EUR 10.95 a month is the floor of the advertised range. A German rival sells the same 50 GB for about EUR 2.26 before VAT. For a personal site, a portfolio or a first business site, that difference is hard to justify.

Your audience isn’t European: No data centers in the Americas, Asia or Oceania, and no CDN product to close the gap.

You want a dedicated server you can back out of: The refund policy gives no money-back guarantee at all on dedicated servers or colocation. Shared hosting gets 45 days, reseller 30, VPS 14, dedicated zero. At EUR 149.95 a month minimum, that’s a commitment made on faith.

You need managed WordPress tooling: The WordPress page is the shared product under another name. No staging, no WordPress-specific support tier.

Red Flags for Your Situation

• Phone support is essential: technical issues go through tickets and chat, and a 2022 reviewer named the missing phone line as their main complaint
• You want recent proof of service quality: the entire public review record stops in May 2023
• You’re buying a Swiss or Serbian dedicated server: both carry a EUR 120 setup fee, and Zurich adds EUR 10 a month. Neither appears on the pricing page
• You resell outside the Netherlands: reseller hosting ships from one location only

• Company Information: Excellent – the imprint carries Dutch company number 57600511, a VAT number, a Legal Entity Identifier, two addresses and a phone number. That identifier checks out against the global LEI register, which lists AltusHost B.V. as active at IJsbaanpad 2 in Amsterdam. Very few hosts publish this much.
• Pricing Transparency: Good – every billing cycle appears on the product pages, and the cart charges exactly what those pages promise. Two gaps stop it being excellent. BIZ Lite at EUR 6.00 a month sells in the cart but on no product page. Dedicated server location surcharges only surface at the configuration step.
• Technical Documentation: Fair – resource limits, data center locations and network specs are published, and there’s a working looking glass. But the January 2026 redesign lost detail. The old shared hosting page specified 30-day backup retention with free restores, where today’s page says only “Daily Backup”. The knowledge base also has empty sections.
• Terms and Policies: Good – the terms carry version numbers and dates, and the SLA credit tiers are spelled out. But the marketing copy promises a “45-day full refund, no questions asked”. The policy limits it to first-time accounts and base fees, with cancellation inside the window. The data centers page also advertises a “100 percent power uptime guarantee” that appears nowhere in the terms.

Overall Transparency: Good, and better than most. The company disclosures are close to best in class. The gap sits between confident marketing language and the narrower terms behind it, which is where careful buyers should read twice.

ChemiCloud runs data centers outside Europe and answers on live chat, with a Starter plan opening at USD 1.49 a month. Read the renewal figure first, though. That plan returns to USD 11.95 a month, which is exactly the jump AltusHost doesn’t have.

The catch is different: the terms let list prices change at renewal, and they did. Shared hosting rose between 8 and 20 percent in April 2026, depending on tier and billing cycle.

Four tiers, from VM-1 at 2 cores, 2 GB RAM and 40 GB storage, up to VM-4 at 8 cores, 8 GB and 160 GB. All are self-managed, so you run the operating system yourself. Locations: Netherlands, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Sweden.

In July 2026 AltusHost raised CPU and bandwidth on every VPS plan and made 1 Gbps the standard port. It also changed what happens at your traffic cap: the server now throttles to 50 Mbps instead of being suspended. No price change came with it.

Reseller Hosting

Starting at: EUR 34.95/mo monthly, or EUR 29.95/mo annually, for 50 GB and 50 cPanel accounts.

One data center only, the Netherlands, which limits how you serve clients elsewhere.

Dedicated Servers

Annual billing takes 10 percent off. Quarterly and semi-annual take 3 and 5 percent.

AltusHost is expensive and doesn’t pretend otherwise. Its VPS page says outright: “We don’t aim to match the cheapest price.” BIZ Start gives you 50 GB of SSD for EUR 11.95 a month before VAT. German rival netcup sells the same 50 GB for EUR 2.69 including 19 percent VAT, around EUR 2.26 net. That’s roughly a five-fold difference on identical storage.

What the money buys is a written SLA (Service Level Agreement, a contractual uptime promise), owned infrastructure, and a price that stays put. Whether that’s worth five times the budget rate depends on what an hour of downtime costs you.
